About as average as you can get. What can I do to make this look better? I thing I like the lighting and v-ray settings, but it looks to much like a cheaper render engine like Accurender.
Am far from the right person to give any advice but the image seems very dark. Could you beef up the general ambient light or increase the intensity of you light sources (or add invisible lights to the scene?)
I suppose this has partly to do with the generally dark materials in the scene. Is the ceiling supposed to be black-ish? Maby slightly brighter materials would get the light bouncing around the space a bit more?
pretty dark and dreary. any photoshop at all? If not, remember your work as a 3d artist doesn't end after the render is done, its just the beginning. photoshop photoshop photoshop.

Hi, I'm new here and this is my first post so I don't have anywhere near the knowledge of everyone else but how about a VRAY override material for the dark blue carpet as another idea. I often use this if I've got very dark flooring...

The man is a laydeee!!!
Hi Glorybound, yep no problem.
Take material already created for the carpet
Select VRAY override material from the material map browser
Keep old material as sub
In Gi Material, create a light grey material.
This will still give you the carpet as it is but it will reflect GI as a much lighter material.
If you put a VrayOverride material as your carpet then the color wouldn't bleed onto the other materials making the room darker from the color of the carpet. Is this the correct explaination?

basically yes. of course it all depends what color you use for your override material.

Those cans seem pretty small for the space. Yeah.. directional spots would help; usually it doesn't have to be lit correctly, just as long as it looks correctly lit. Do those sconces throw any light into the scene?
