        Hi, Vlado!

Great scene. The water looks real.

Can you send me the .max file?
        Thanks.

        Regards.

Trying this on some standard geometry and am getting more of a mirror effect, no tranlucent look, the "foggy depth" of the water. Duplicated the settings posted and triple checked.
Is the look due to dreamscape or the surface being un-even?

It doesn't matter if the sea surface is rough or flat, the effect is
primarily dependent on your scene scale. To approximate
the value of the (translucency) thickness, use a tape helper to
measure distance between the sea level and the depth where
you want the fogginess to end...

            Hope this helps.

Dman3d: Because of the fresnel reflections camera angle is very important. If you have the camera close to the water surface, looking across it, it will look mostly reflective. Try moving your camera higher and pointing it more downward.

of course, I'm only guessing since you didn't post a picture....

Use a single plane and not a box with this parameters, I also had this kind of troubles...

                  thanks for the tips!
the thickness value is in system units right?
                  where 1 = 1" (ect..)

Looking more like oil at the moment, will keep poking around, sure I missed something. this is my first real shot at water

ok I got it, had to set the thickness to 10000

not sure I understand what a unit in this area is equal to.
the pool itself is about 2' 9" deep and my units are Feet w/fractional inches.

why would it need to be so high? would I not set it for 1' or so?
                    1 unit?

Will go back and read the VRay manual to see if something is there.

                    thanks for the help

At the moment Vray Units are Generic Units, not inches and not meters...

Well that clears up a number of things, suspected it anyway.
So at the moment it is a bit of guess work, at least until I get the feel.

I think you need to enable refractive GI cautics otherwise everything under your water surface will be black because it recieves no light.

refractive is on, just the thickness setting causing a bit-o-confusion

I'm having trouble dowloading the avi file. Is there a special codec I need?

                                vlado?

                                nice still frame
