Another project using Peter's HDR's. There are 28 images for this project showing different times of the day. The scene is created using 3d meshes for Gravel, Grass and Bushes using Vray Mesh Export. Grass and Gravel were distributed using Advanced Painter. Roof tiles is a displacement map. Everything apart from the Landscaping was modelled in Sketch up. This was my first Sketch up model and I can say I will never model architecture in Studio Max again.

House is a refurbishment, in open ground in Naas, Ireland. The existing part of the house is basically where you see the traditional Pitched roof, everything else is new.

I used 1725 Sun, 0743 Cloudy, 2003 Dusk and 2009 Pink available here at Peter's 3DOcean Store

Overall I am very happy with the way these turned out, especially has this is basically my 'Rig' now. Work took approx 3 weeks from start to finish. What I love about the workflow I have at the moment is the ability to change the time of day in a matter of minuets using HDR's. The Sun and Vray Dome are linked to the Material editor so all I have to do is switch sets on and off and rotate them to wherever I want them. I remember the days of spending days and weeks on daytime shots and then dreading starting the night time shots. Living in Rural Ireland we get some amazing weather so I hope to start making some HDR's here!

I think its not the best approach to copy someone elses style to this extent cos people will always compare......
I also think that this house would maybe deserve a better setting......less plane, maybe more dramatic environment

compared to Peter Guthries renders....these are boring and lack the athmosphere, although well done otherwise (maybe little overexposed in some parts)
the grass is nice, so is the corten material on the external cladding

Looks really good - and i wouldn't say you were copying - we are all trying to archeive "photo realism" here. Anyway you do master visualization...

I was a bit dissapointed when looking at full res. on flicker - i think the backdrops and far horison makes the images look a little fake. Maybe work on a Z-depth pass and try to gamma adjust the stuff far away. I would give that a try.
But in general it's looking good

I think because this is a similar project and I used the paid for HDR images the comparisons are starting to be drawn. It's unfortunate because I think if I've had used different HDR images, displacement grass instead of mesh and Rendered these images in a 16x9 format I dont think this comparison would have been drawn nor the referral to the images as being 'boring' versions of peter's. It's a tough one, use Peter's HDR's and tutorial techniques and attract the 'copy critics', or dont. My intention is not to 'copy' other peoples work, I am trying to learn and improve my existing techniques to make myself a better artist. I don't find the 'boring version' of Peter comment constructive and to be honest, it doesn't sound like a well thought out critique. Of course they lack the atmosphere of Peters work because he has a gift, and we all want to strive to be somewhere towards that, this is my result of that and my appreciation to Peter for helping us learn is to link people back to Peter's store. If Peter wants to share your view and tell me I am a copy artist then I am happy to stop using the tutorials and buying the HDR images. I will find another way, but that kind of defeats the object of Peter selling the HDR's and publishing the tutorials doesn't it?

Website, It's indexhibit. I have being using it for years. Before I even knew of Peters existence. This comment > btw...even your website is similar... Please be careful, firing out random comments can be damaging, we are all trying our best in the current climate, and some people would more appreciate well thought out comments rather than testing people. I am in the middle of a complete revamp at the moment which is far away from where it is at the moment.
I do appreciate the constructive comments though - thank you!
Check back on my website in the coming two weeks - hope to have the revamp complete by end of august.

i knew my opinion woul stir you ...an probably someone else too...

the grass/ gravel/ lighting/ composition /use of background trees.....it just evoked too much of Peter Guthrie.........thats all......i have just expresed my opinion

after reading your 1st post, i ve had a look at your website, have seen more similar works and the website itself looked "same-ish".......the creation date there was 2010...so i thought its copied......if not, you have my sincere apology.

Personally I think they're great images and I think the assertion that they're PG rips (limey only gag there ) is a bit unfair. I think this is just a very clean style and certainly nicer imho than all the alex roman wannabes.

the techniques P.G. introuced to the forum are well carried out.

i just said they look similar THATS ALL...because to me they do look alike.....its just an opinion...thats what the forum is for, to express ones opinion

i also dont feel that my comments were harmfull in any way....what harm can they do? this is mostly forum of users not clients....you can also take it thew other way round....if someone sees you ve mastered Peters techniques, you can surely get some jobs in (outside or here on the forum)

enough said....i dont want to steal this thread or go any further in contemplation about similarity and originality

Nice work. BTW while I like peter guthries work, its hardly new and revolutionary. You could certainly make the argument its itself derivative.
