  • yeah dont look at the times for mine. I have a tenancy to set them up and leave for the day and let them run overnight. Right now Im just seeing where the BDPT falls down.

Vlado, any idea if the glass and dispersion bugs will be fixed in the next service release?

    Thanks!

          • omg thats really nice Anchovy!!!
looks like this workflow could be really used for true lighting simulation yes? Looks like youre not getting that much of noise anymore...nice stuff!!!

Thanks for the kind words. Yep It will be interesting to see where the BDPT goes.

                  • Hi Michael,

                    great images.

What's your machine spec and are you using any kind of noise reduction software.
And have you any experience of hooking up a few pc's to see how the render times come down using the VRayBPTracer.

                    Thanks,

                    Steve

I'm running on an older mac pro under bootcamp and honestly I don't remember the spec off the top of my head. all the renders are straight from the vfb so no post at all. I know you can DR the render but I haven't set it up to do that. One of my pals in NZ is doing DR with the BDPT as we speak and the results are impressive.

No probs. I'm really liking what you're doing with this and would be interested in what your pal is doing too.
I've just got myself a copy of V-Ray so will be testing the VRayBPTracer shortly also.

Thanks again for your tests. Looks like this is going to be a real option for realistic stills for sure.

                        Cheers,

                        Steve

                        • More fun-

I love this for some reason. Its based on an Indigo test from a number of years ago but it shows off some fun and subtle lighting artifacts.

This one will certainly benefit from Vlado's upcoming vertex merging/Progressive Photon Tracing/BDPT additions. The reflections of the caustics just get lost.

And this was just with the PPT as the BDPT doesn't handle dispersion yet.

                            • Can someone post a working sample scene for this? Every time I add the VRayBPTracer helper to a scene (any scene) & render it crashes 3ds Max (2013 w/VRay 2.30.01)

                              Thanks.

                                Hi Jeff,
Here's a quick and dirty file setup for BPTracer.
VrayBPtracer wasn't working for me too in 3dsmax 2013, but I re-installed the latest vray and its working again, maybe it might be worth trying too.
