RAM is important for scene size...if it fits, it renders. Speed is determined by the amount of cores you have, as well as the clock speed of the GPU. Add more GPUs/boards for more speed, but make sure you have enough RAM on each one for your scene as each GPU has to load the entire scene. Earlier drivers seem to be somewhat faster than later ones. We're hoping that changes...

what i always wanted to ask... how important is the memory size of the gfx board for vray? for example with this demo scene, is there a difference between a 1gb gtx 460 or gtx 560 and their 2gb siblings measureable? we have a gainward 2gb gtx 460 card here and with the newest 270.61 drivers (which are supposed to be somewhat slower than some older drivers i read) it renders the scene in 6:32min (core overclocked from default 700 to 800mhz), so it seems about the same speed as other similar models in the chart above. but as we don´t have any other cards around besides old gtx 260 models i can´t really compare it.
i guess it depends on the memory usage of a certain scene? any buying advices concerning this? we deal mostly with archviz scenes. for example is a gtx 560 ti 2gb worth the price difference to the normal 1gb models? seems to me that in this case i would rather shell out some euros more and get a 570 instead which renders much faster according to the chart...
best regards,
christoph.

Vlado, what about using Radeon and Geforce mixed? I believe you mentioned that was a future possibility.

Hehe, yes for the time being the first place is yours
I also added some new results for Radeon 5970 and Radeon 6970; they are not too bad with the latest drivers.
Best regards,
Vlado

Thanks you to make me the great winner !! ( joking )
i notice a big difference between 280 and 580 !!
14min > 3minutes !! 280 isn't an old card !

I updated the chart in the second post with some of the more recent results.

Maybe I can try old driver with GeForce GTX 580. I think its not possible to 480 and 580 be the same.

Here is a chart of the results so far:
I will be updating this as more results become available. An interesting fact is that the 580 card with the newest drivers is exactly as fast as the 480 with the older drivers...

Vlado

GPU benchmarks
So now we have a simple benchmark scene that can be used to compare different GPUs - you can find the scene plus some results in this thread: http://www.chaosgroup.com/forums/vbu...400-test-scene
Best regards,
Vlado

I've also added one exotic combination - 1 TITAN X + 2xQuadro M6000.Last edited by Administrator; 23-03-2015, 08:56 AM.Tags: None
