Well, I just tested a FirePro W8000 with the 14th driver release, rendered in 2m 39s, which puts it on par with a GTX 580. Not bad, not bad at all. So I believe it now

    Best regards,
    Vlado

Ah, well, one step closer at least. Could you guys at CG keep me updated to the status of this issue?

We used 2.4; we do get the same problems with 3.0 and we are looking into fixing them.

He he...the amount of skeptisim here is amusing and certainly I don't blame anyone a bit - I'm skeptical as well. But hey, it's only software and if nVidea can do it, then certainly AMD can. I really hope they have broken through this time 'cause like I said, monopolies on this sort of thing are never good for the end users...And I have to say that speaking to them at Siggraph (two years in a row!), they certainly sounded interested...

    Give me competitive marketing!

I want to believe, but the horror of past experiences still resonates.

You have to restart Max in order the changes to take effect btw.

Start menu > Programs > Chaos Group > V-Ray RT for 3ds Max > Select OpenCL devices for V-Ray RT - in the window that opens, make sure that only GPU devices are selected:

I don't know what that is.

I just re ran the test on 3dsmax 2014 as we upgraded this week: 1min 59s at stock 1000mhz so slightly faster again.
