  • Render Problems

    Hello,
I'm having alot of difficulty rendering my alley scene. Attached is a wire of the final render. Viz will lockup about 3/4 through the first irradiance pass. The scene has 660,000 polys. My next heaviest scene has just over 300,000 polys and I can render it without any problems, irradiance calc in 2 mins and it renders in 1.5 mins.
I am wondering why I am having this problem when the alley scene is approximately double the poly count of a scene that renders with ease. My vray settings in the alley are simple: 1st GI bounces:1, Secondary bounces: .8, Environment set to override Viz's @ .23, Very low irradiance map.
I let it run overnight to see if it was just taking alot longer than usual, but it was still frozen 3/4 through the firts pass. When monitoring my processors, I notice they are only being used at 50% & Memory usage is way below capacity.
I was using the free version with no luck and then switched to the demo version...same problems

    Dual AMD 1.3 Ghz
    512mb RAM

    Any suggestions are apprecieated.

    much thanks

Can you post a screen shot of your settings?

If your render size image is the same you have post here, try to use the default settings and turn on the show calculation phase to see what every pass do in your image.

I would probably change the Vray Skylight to at least 1, low the first diffuse bouces to 0.8 and Secondary bounces to 0.6.

          Goncalo,
Where is the the "show calculation phase" setting? I am not seeing it.
One note: I managed to render the scene without any textuses...just a solid white material. Does this mean that my problems are not related to the poly count but rather the textures? How much of an impact do textures have on the irradiance calculation?

          thanks for your help
