  • Real visualization project (Exterior picture added)

This is a project of a building with 46 appartments.

This building is located i Malmoe, Sweden - close to to the famous building Turning Torso. Appartment, doors, windows, drapes, kitchen, light, light switches (fridge, stove and oven) modelled by me. Floor texture is also made by me. All other objects are from 3Dwarehouse.

In the exterior shot the centerbuilding is all 3D and completly modeled within Sketchup with curtains and all.

Outdoor photos take on location by me (with my Sony Mobile K800i) and added with photoshop. Blanket and pillow photographed by me and added in post production.

The scene is kept simple with no carpets, no colored walls and few drapes due to the costumers requirements.

    Comments and critics are welcome.

(Outdoor view will be added when done).

    Re: Real visualization project

    really nice Fluke.

My only remark would be that possible appartment 'buyers' in general like spaces with a warmer mood. So i suggest changing the colour palette to a bit warmer whites.

Or do this in post edit...
    Maybe like this?:

      Re: Real visualization project

Thanks for the tip Biebel. Your point sounds true - but your sugestion is way to "warm" or yellowish for my tast. I'll look into making it warmer, but at the same time the area where this is built the general feeling cold concrete and ocean. And Sweden is a "cold" country . I'll see what more people think if it's way to cold or maybe your suggestion is to warm.

      Thanks again.

        Re: Real visualization project

You can actually try to adjust the warmness or coolness via the white balance feature on the physical camera. Its something that might produces some interesting results (if you don't want to worry about figuring out fstop/ss/iso then just uncheck exposure).

Dalomar: That sounds like an interesting idéa i will try to play with that feature. For now i've rendered them in 1600x1200 and i haven't optimized the the rendering time. So it takes about 4 hours to render them i have lights in each "room", like dinner place, kitchen, halway and 3 rooms + the windows which takes the outdoor lightning. So 7 lights and 5 "windowlights".

So for now it's easier to change the tone of the two images in photoshop instead.

            Fluke,
You are right. I toned it down a little
and made the image smaller (it is your thread after all).

I must say i like your renderings a lot.
Hopefully more talented people like you will be posting in the gallery.

Cheers and keep up the good work,

              Re: Real visualization project

There was a thread on the ChaosGroup forum were this guy had some really awesome effects with different renders, and all he did was mess with the white balance of the camera. I can't find it though, but if I do I'll either post a link or a few tumbnails. Its an overlooked feature, and can produce some great results. I understand that it would take a little long to do a rerender, but it could be of use the next time around. The apartment looks good. I'd want to live there, but then again I live in a basement at the moment .

So I wound up finding the thread. Here's the link for you guys registered at the CG forum (you probably should anyway) http://www.chaosgroup.com/forum/phpB...ic.php?t=18285
This was all just from adjusting the sun position and the white balance

Here is the direct post I am talking about
Oks, NP, but I have to prepare all the images into one.
Please keep in mind that those images were produced as WIPs.
Just playing around with the Sun location and the White Balance.
The idea was to see how different it can look and all the stages are
named closely to what the render "KIND OF" looks like. No perfect
                matches at all.

I'm not sure if the CG forum is public. We still haven't worked out the details to allow our users to gain access to it. Unless they've changed their policy recently.

I wish I could tell you a bit more about the settings, but it isn't my work. I just saw it and thought is was really cool. They were done with vray sun and sky, so there are things like tubidity and other things at work. I would just say to play around and see what you can create. I've got to mess around with it myself since I am doing a sun/sky tutorial soon.

With the CG forums, I belive Renee is right in that you can register, but can't post.

@ Renee: the physical camera settings are very useful and very intuitive if you have experience with photography. It is a bit different that typical CG, but it allows you to work almost as a CG photographer which is interesting and fun. It would be great to see the physical camera going as far as having camera filters as you would use on a real camera too.

                          Re: Real visualization project

                          Fluke,
I hate to say this, but in your second rendering, the vertical line of photographed building outside the window (far left one) don't seem to align with the vertical line of your window frames. I guess what I'm saying is the vanishing points of the background photo and your model don't seem to be in same location.

or... do I need to see my eye doctor?

other than that, boy, they are very nice renderings.

good rendering. one thing i think is the photograph outside, the horizon line and projection doesnot match the vanishing points of the interior scene.
i've seen some tutorials where in you can put a big plane and paint the picture on the plane putside. in su you can also adjust the pins of the image to match with the interior scene.

                              again nice work.
