if i change the dist to 0.1 wouldnt that introduce more splotches onto the lace since it wont be getting samples into the places its needed?

this was my test with my initial settings. the wmv actually hides a lot of the large splotchy noise in the overhanging part of the lace. testing your settings now. seems like its going to be the same 50min-1hr a frame as my settings i just hope the noise is gone or ill have to start breaking it into layers and rendering the problematic parts as saved irradiance maps and comping everything in the end

Glad it worked for you...i think it can be still tweaked but you would have to substitute the LC and IM individually with BF or something to find out where the splotches are originating if its IM or LC.
                      BTW
hope youll reach the peeling stage soon...thats where the fun begins with skin everywhere ))

replaced the LC with BF and poof splotches went away. render time jumped a half an hour though. if i stick with LC whats the best setting to change to deal with splotchy GI? the subdivs? or the sample size?
