    6400 x 3200 - the pre-pass and render times would have been around 26hrs.

You can usually ignore the initial estimates for the prepass. Often, espesially with displacement or lots of proxies, my LC calculations shoots through the roof initially to something like 300 and something hours and just keeps getting higher. But then it suddenly drops again and rarely it takes longer than 10 or 30 minutes

Just INCREASE your settings. You'll see how cool this is. Set your HDRI dome light's subs on 256. Your materials between 32 and 128 depending on glossy. IRmap on medium preset and just change hssubs and inter samples to 60 and 40. LC defaults but maybe 2000 subs and tick glossy rays and enable pre-filter to between 50 and 150

With these settings that scene at that res shouldnt take anything more than 4 to 5 hours

EDIT: and dmc should be min 2 and max somewhere between 32 and 50, check your sample rate element to get the optimal max setting (it should be mostly blue with well defined edges, try to get as little red as you can without loosing the edges)

Nope! 1 1/2hrs later and prepass says hours left. I zipped everything up and I'll upload it. If you want to play, I'll post the link. http://www.sendspace.com/pro/dl/ukxs6i

Thanks, but a 1.8GB file will take couple of days to download...

I turned the stone displacement off and cranked up the bump, which at this viewing distance seems to work fine. I rendered out 3200 x 1800. and it took 3:46:20.

You had your stone displacement set to 3d, which really slows things down. 2d is much faster.

Okay, here is an update. I didn't render out at a very high resolution, but it's just for screen anyway.

I boosted the pool blue, so you can tell that it is water.

Now this one I like. I think it works especially well now that you've faded that gazebo into the background and put more focus on the house.
