  • Ribena Christmas

Here's a project we did last year for Ribena's Christmas campaign.

The initial brief was for us to just create the berry characters and fairy lights, drop these over a supplied photo of the table/background and bottle. As the project progressed the client couldn't source photography that they were happy with so in the end we just created everything in 3ds max.

The design of the characters was pretty much locked down by previous executions and their proportions (large body, small limbs) made posing them a little difficult and having them interact with one another very challenging.

We (foolishly) jumped this project straight in the beta of V-Ray 3.0 which gave us a couple of small problems but even without changing any settings the whole scene instantly rendered 30% faster than in 2.4, which made it well worth it.

              Thanks guys! Much appreciated

I only really worked on the characters for this one, the lion's share of the of the work was done by my colleague Matt.

One thing that might be mildly interesting was that we spent quite a while tweaking UV coords to try and wrap the flat artwork of the main label onto the bottle. We got it 80% of the way there but it was still a headache to adjust, so on a whim I tried running a cloth simulation to literally drop a mesh version of the paper onto the bottle. After 15 minutes of fiddling we actually got a result, that while not perfect, was not bad!
