Here's a project we did last year for Ribena's Christmas campaign.
The initial brief was for us to just create the berry characters and fairy lights, drop these over a supplied photo of the table/background and bottle. As the project progressed the client couldn't source photography that they were happy with so in the end we just created everything in 3ds max.
The design of the characters was pretty much locked down by previous executions and their proportions (large body, small limbs) made posing them a little difficult and having them interact with one another very challenging.
We (foolishly) jumped this project straight in the beta of V-Ray 3.0 which gave us a couple of small problems but even without changing any settings the whole scene instantly rendered 30% faster than in 2.4, which made it well worth it.
