here is how that card was coming in when I opened your scene. Self illum material + generate gi = it emits gi in the scene.

the sampling might be too extreme if you dont use brute force, irmap could get away with much less.

My experience with brute force is the initial buckets just sit there for about 10 minutes, which is about the time I give up and go back to what I know.

Haha...Well brute force is your "true" gi calculation. It looks very nice in terms of precision in gi. But in interiors you can get same result with irmap if you know what you are doing at 10th of the render time.

Literally if you render with -3/0 100/50 for example you get very good gi solution noise free. Not happy about the precision ? set it to -3/1 then you get even higher res irmap.

I installed the latest VRay, using your setting, other than changing it to IRR, and it's on pass 4 of 4 and it's been 2hrs. I'll see what happens when it gets to the renders part, but as of now, way too long.

Extremely clean, however, it's 4 hours into it with 11 hours to go. Obviously not okay.

yeah you might need to drop the dmc settings as I was using them for brute force cleaning up its samples.

I usually start with 2/16 - good start?

yeah its what I start with and usually land on something like 2/24 depending on a scene. In your scene the main cause of noise was brute force and no other way to clean it up other then raise max subdivs.

I did some region renders and 1/4 does just fine. I did a series of 10 images, all 4K in under an hour, and all using 1/4 with a low IRR. Then, once in a while, I get tripped up by scenes like this.

yeah quite honestly I'm not sure what it is, but even irmap I have to set waaay high to get it clean much higher then usual. Something might be up...not sure.

It started off rendering fast, but overtime, something happened. There isn't any one thing that I can think of, but something is broken.

All night an about 1/2 the way done. I'll have to shelf this for now, the Corona one worked for the client. The project will change, so I'll visit again, then.
