The trees are bitmaps, as for the shadows in the foreground I only added a little blur to the opacity bitmap of the tree behind the camera, that way I dont have to use area shadows wich make the render much slower.

but what about your lights settings?
how many lights did you use in thie scene ,and what are their "shadow" settings ? (Vray shadow for a target direct maybe ?)

i am curious however about your lighting setup... ive tried this and well my image becomes blown out. I was wondering why some peoples lighting setups work fine for some images then if u dupoicate the lighting setup in another image it always tendds to blow out any explanation?

I know only too well what you mean
but maybe a simpel explanation is
that the GI (receive and generate) settings for objects have been modified from the default 1.0 settings??????
