nice water Da_elf.
I am also working on a project, much smaller than your's, and the project has a swimming poll. The problem is that my water always looks bad. Can you give me a little advice on how to achieve the water on your scene?
that was about 2 days of work. im looking to have it finished is about a week i guess. it all depends on if the client asks for changes which they like to do.
as for settings.
water: start with egz glass, convert to vray material then alter ior to that of water. and add in the bump map a mix map with noise in various sizes and phases. maybe even some swirl or wave or anything fun just to give it a nice bump. i suggest you have a default material not see-through and play with your bump map in the diffuse slot just to see how it looks. do quick non-GI renders of it to find a nice looking wave patern.
Lighting: I didnt do much on the lighting. just simply multiplyer of 1 for both direct light and for skylight. warm color on direct light and cool blue for environment. then used something like 0.55 for brightness multiplyer of color mapping with hsv exponential.

how does it go with linear for color mapping? Just curious as I'm starting to use this more as clients keep commenting that my images look washed out when I use HSV exponential (eg backgrounds)
linear made the colors look washed out actually. but i have "dont affect background" on mine. i never used to use color mapping before i used to use .6 for sun and .6 for skylight as for the stairs i used the drawings povided for the number of steps and used 7 inches for the height of each
