  • Noise in bump: Still struggling to get any decent looking output

    Hello,
I am still having problems with getting a nice result when using noise in bump slot.
Thing is that I have a lot of plastic shaders with varying types of grain. So far it all works fine in CPU, but in GPU mode the noise texture seems to be bakes or something like that. It looks low res and misses all the subtle details. I told Vray to use the full size texture in full float, still the same.
So, how can I finally get this to work?

First set of images has larger grain, second set smaller grain. Left is CPU, right GPU.

    This is Max right ?
    Which V-Ray version ?

Can you share a screenshot of the shader network for the material with the bump or the scene ?

Yep, I'm having the same issue with noise maps for bump in RT GPU too. This forces me to use Vray Adv instead of RT which is 2-3 times slower compared to GPU for the particular scene I'm rendering. Here are some examples from that scene:

With RT, I had to use VrayColor2Bump with the Noise map as per the recommendation in the Footnotes of this help page otherwise it wouldn't appear.

Am I adding procedural bump maps with RT CUDA wrong or is this a problem with the bump in RT?

I am looking into that as we speak, but I couldn't fix that particular case with that geometry for 3.5 Beta 2.

@Alex_M - The renders that you have shown, are they made with nightly or Beta 1 (Beta 1 had bugs with that) ?

This was rendered with the official Beta 1 release. I don't have access to the nightlies. It would be nice, though. I mean, I can access the download panel but the latest version I see is vray_adv_35002_<maxversion>_27140.rar in folder 11.01.2017. Is this the latest nightly?

@Alex_M The final Beta 2 will be out soon anyway. If the problem persists it will be best to send a scene as well. Sorry for the troubles.
@kosso_olli Still looking into your scene, will update when I have something.

Alright, can't wait to try it out! I'll test the same scene with it when it's out and let you know if it's better.

@kosso_olli - your issue should be fixed for 3.50.03.
If it was that easy, it would have already been done

I just tested with beta 2 and the bump issue for me has been fixed. It looks pretty much identical to Vray Adv. now. Thanks!!!
