  • Vray plane as shadow catcher break reflection channel

    Alright guys,
    here is the next problem...
I have a scene here with an HDRI in the environment slot. It uses the ground projection feature. When I place a VrayPlane into the scene and set it to shadow catcher, the reflection channel gets very bright.
These two images show the RGB and reflection channel with the plane in the scene:

And here the VrayPlane was deleted. Looks as it should:

As a result of all this, the Layering in the postproduction stage does not work, because the reflection channel is too bright. Scene file is attached. Am I doing something wrong, or is this a known limitation? I use the same process in ADV, and there it works like a charm. To me it looks like the shadow catcher doesn't properly pick up the background...

You know what? Don't waste any time on this, I am back on CPU with ADV.
This whole GPU craze is utter nonsense. Now that I am in the middle of the project, GPU tells me it can not render the high res image because I am out of VRAM. Yeah, right. You just can't do any commercial high res rendering with this tech yet. Scene is not that big, it is a handmodeled car with around 6 millions polies. Textures need to be quite big though because of the resolution, and I have lots of them for decals and dirt etc. Don't want to waste any time with manually resizing them, because somehow on-demand-mip-mapping does not help at all.

We will look into the issues you reported nevertheless, thanks for the feedback and sorry for your troubles.
V-Ray GPU can load times bigger scenes, so there is something wrong, but as usual I can't tell what without the scene. It works great and is used by many production rendering workflows , but obviously there are certain workflows for which we have to work more to make it more suitable.

      Best,
      Blago.

I can send you the last GPU scene I used if you are interested. Along with the list of issues I had.
