How about a vray port to lightwave!!!

I getting sick of waiting for MAX to be what they say it will be in the near future. Which, never seems to come.

We need 64 bit now, not next year or more likely, never from autodesk.

        Interesting

Interesting when was the first time you heard it ? I heard it the first time about 8 months ago from what I thought was was pretty reliable source - maybe it is all a con developed by autodesk to keep 3ds users hanging in there for "the next big thing ?". What version was 3ds at when you first heard the rumour ?

They had an Itanium build of max 4 or magma or whatever they called it several years ago. But Itanium never really took off. 64 bit workstation are just taking off, with XP 64 still going through all it's little infancy problems regarding software, drivers etc. There is no use bringing out a build before people start having systems to run it on. This is the right time to bring it out, and I hope they will do it as fast as possible.

Well, they would want to release it within a year at least, unless they want to release the announced max 8 64 bit version at the same time as max 9

ya im not surprised...and they had better get off their asses and get it out...or there's going to be a wave of people leaving max like those that left softimage when it became the initial XSI...

The main problem that Autodesk is facing with the 64-bit version is that Microsoft does not have an official development environment for 64-bit Windows yet - there are beta versions so that people can try it out like we did with V-Ray, but it's not yet released officially. It is necessary to have a stable development environment so that the 3dsmax team and the plugin developers can use the same programming base for code compatibility.

Autodesk showed a 64-bit recompile of 3dsmax at the Sparks meeting at SIGGRAPH - although they admitted that probably they will not be able to release it in time for 3dsmax 8.

                      Best regards,
                      Vlado

We just need Microsoft to hurry up and get Longhorn out, then I think we will see a lot of 64 bit stuff. The little demo they did of 64 bit Max was pretty impressive. Huge files opening up in 20 seconds all while runnin 4-5 sessions of Max consuming over 5 gigs of RAM...

                        Maybe 8.5 Q2? 64bit 64bit 64bit 64bit 64bit 64bit !

Since there are no major core changes in MAX 8 should we assume vray will run without any problems?

                              Vlado,

I think that is great news that Autodesk is waiting and not jumping like the other companies in getting 3ds Max to 64 bit on a beta development environment. I think we should all applaud Autodesk for being cautious as many of us earn our livings with this great piece of software and other pieces like Vray. I rather wait and have a stable, robust 64 bit Max and not one that doesn't work properly because Microsoft changes the development environment or something causing the 64 bit version to be buggy or break. Anyway that's my rant!

Well I for one would like to see both max and vray running in a stable 64bit linux environment (but I guess that won't ever happen)
