Yeah usually if you dont overclock properly things get corrupted. You should normally up the voltage a little for the cpu and memory when you start overclocking. That can fix alot of issues. And normally run a memtest before doing anything serious on your overclocked machine. you should get no errors at all. If you do then try changing some things in the bios.

      what motherboard?

I have found on the Asus A8N SLI deluxe, the voltage tends to do nothing of a boost until you set it to 1.4625 to 1.4750. Then suddnely my Vcore voltage goes from 1.39/1.41 up to 1.5

The temp goes up 5 degrees going from 1.4625 to 1.4750 so be very careful, do a lot of reading, and don't overdo it.

      Depends on your motherboard though...

Try Prime95 torture test x 2 to to temps and stability.

        motherboards a gigabyte k8nxp-9..
so up volts first and the memory..
didnt realise you even touch the mem volts...
thats probably my problem, ive been uppering the FSB and a small increase on the cpu volts..

Update. Did more reading and found a great method to get a better OC.

          My 2200Mhz is now doing 2634MHz = 5mins 7.3 seconds

The little Athlon that could. awwwwwww. :P

So I have 2604Mhz stable, and I if I could be bothered squeezing it harder I think I could get to 2634. But you know...

Did isolated tests to see how high CPU, memory, FSB and Hypertransport multiplier could go individually, then worked out the best way to get most things near their proven limit - given a pretty mild voltage for air cooling.

Dropped CPU multiplier from 11x to 10x, Hypertransport from 5x to 4x, dropped memory from 400Mhz to 333, then cranked up the FSB to 260+MHz (from 200) More stable that previous efforts.

          Great stuff.

hmmm...haven't tried file linking in winxp64...cant really think why it would be a problem... who knows... ive found that im using max alot on the standard windows version as opposed to the 64bit flavor...haven't really needed it yet though.

                        nice
I might have to do the same, my workflow has been affected big time by not being able to file link. Keep getting runtime errors!

                            im using max 7.5.
As soon as I try to reload an existing file it comes up with a runtime error then max exits.
                            very annoying.
I have tried relinking the file on another computer and it works.

not sure if it would be any different with max 6 or max 7.5. might be interesting to know though.
