lol, love the flaming..... i've been ligting siggarests of of maxwell forum for about a week now.
    Here is what happened:
They were unable to fix some of the issues beta engine had i.e. noise in the dielectrics. So they rewrote the engine. Now its a completely new engine. Untested and unseen in action. Plus this studio like a bomb on the head. Based on some renders around maxwell forum.....quality is soo poor.....Im about to return their maxwell to them too....
    Damnit.

Looks like it is going to be a while before Maxwell gets back on it's feet. Some nice images in their gallery though. Just what did NL use to produce them and how long did they take?

there is speculation about some key person leaving NL, which was what started this mess...

So all the RC probs are a result of this one key person leaving NL before the release of the RC's or this key person is going to be leaving NL screwing up the development of Maxwell further in the future?

          I guess the plot thickens

Imagine if Vlado left... what would happen to Vray... or should we call it VladoRay.

All kidding aside. I have seen software stay a float after key people leave. Software is a colaboration, it is very hard to get just one person to do everything, in fact, it is a bad idea in general.

I agree...but how would you explain such a difference between maxwell beta and "RC" if one can call it that. And the fact that now NL is saying revert back to beta....etc.

Oh yeah... I think that has a HUGE factor. But it does not mean that they cannot recover.

In any case, there is a huge wall that you hit when you try to do unbias raytracing. You have to shoot every ray, I don't care how optimized your BSP tree system is, you can only get so much speed out of it. There is a reason all these raytracers (vray, brazil, etc...) came out. it is because they are biased and can get HUGE speed boosts by being so. The question is how much "accuracy" is too much. I just don't think that one person could have solved that problem.

That is pure rumor based on a user's speculation.

Dmitry, did you read Tom's post in this thread?

                            http://www.maxwellrender.com/forum/v...er=asc&start=0

If they don't release a viable product in the next few days, I officially give up on them. I hope they don't turn out to be liars.

Frances dont get me wrong, I invested into maxwell because I believed that there is something special about that renderer. But being lied to about release dates, bad RC releases are not making things easier for me and a lot of other users, who want to belive that indeed maxwell will still be something special. I hope Im wrong and NL is right, I guess we will have to see when RC5 comes out?

I heard it will be quite a long while before the new engine is released but this is just a rumour. I'm glad I waited before rushing the purchase and am pretty disappointed to hear all the things that were wrong with the RCs.

It's hard to believe they could release screens with all the improvements but provide people with something which isn't functional. It's safe to say that there was a major programming error and advertising faux pas(whether intentional or just wishful thinking.) Could they have timed this intentionally to detract finances from an impending Vray 1.5 release? Did they really think they could improve the render within the alotted time-frame? I do think Maxwell will eventually be corrected/improved, judging from the quality of their previous renderings and positive reviews. It may be a while before you see RC5 and that timing will ultimately answer a lot of these questions.

I guess the operative word everyone is asking is 'when?' It appears having specific release dates can cause more trouble than it's worth...
