"Key new features help you achieve stunning results in less time with Autodesk® 3ds Max® 9 software. Accelerate your creative workflow and increase your pipeline efficiency with enhanced animation and rendering tools. 3ds Max leverages the latest technology advancements, such as 64-bit workstations, to help you work with ever-increasing amounts of data and more complex scenes."
the way i see it , nothing new accept support for 64 bit workstations....
max 8 also support 64 bit workstation but that dosn't mean that it is native 64 bit application.
is max 9 a 64 bit application like xsi 5? or is it just workable with 64 bit platforms?
all the other features mean nothing to us..

        This raises a few issues

        1. Compatability of Max 64bit + VRay 32bit (Maybe there will be a 64 bit version of VRay 1.5 in the pipeline?)

        2. Interoperability between render nodes running Max 32 and Max 64

But 64bit certainly does sound good!

64bit vray is ready to go.

There wont be any compatability issues between 32bit and 64nit nodes.

            Maya users also pissed

I spent a bit of time looking around the Maya forums today and they feel very like the max users I talked to. They are pissed off and feel as tough 64 bit should be a point upgrade. They're is a an interesting theory being floated though that Maya 8.5 will have loads of new features - I wonder is there something similar going to happen with Max or is that pure wishful thinking.

i dont think many of you know how cool this 64 bit thing really is.
if you have 64 bit cpus and OS its worth the update price alone.

expect massive performance increase in large scenes.

just look at the 32/64 bit versions of cinema 4D.
                  Reflect, repent and reboot.
                  Order shall return.

The same here. 64 bit support alone makes it a must have, regardless if it's called max 8.5 or max 9. Hair and cloth improvements are very welcome for me, and point cache...we use point cache alll the time in characters for large previz animations...Have u seen the demo videos with that huge dense mesh coming from zbrush? That's a great acceleration IMO...Dont u want to be able to handle denser meshes faster? I certainly do. Don´t really care about mental ray or new silly modifiers. This version is about productivity and speed.

Does anybody know when we will we see the 64 bit version of vray, I know 1.5 is due shortly, does this also mean the 64 bit version will also
be due. I'd love to see what 64 bit max can do with 64 bit vray.

steve 64bit vray is already ready to go! So the wait wont be long.

previous plugins for max wont work in max 9. Maxscripts will still work.

For the love of Pete --- why can't they upgrade the material editor? I saw people posting rumors of an MatEd overhaul and then the Max 9 official list comes out and squashes all hope. The Material Editor is almost unchanged from Max 1 -- which makes it at least 10 years old. That's about 135 in computer years. It's really pathetic.

Somebody on this forum knows .....

Somebody on this forum knows what was intended for the original release - I am convinced there where more features planned that where later pulled for whatever reason - I am sure the NDA is still binding a tongue or two or maybe they are at Siggraph but there has to be more to this story, if there is not, and there was never any plans to update the material editor or improve the other features in max only 64 bit then I give up it's like I just found out there is no Santa Claus - there will never be a f@@@king rewrite.

Speed and productivity enhancements to Hair, such as
                                ...
                                - Support for third-party renderers
What does that mean exactly as far as vray is concerned? Does it mean we won't need to use the Geometry mode?
