  • Yeah the missing ammo was really annoying. Just spent all that time stocking up and then blam all gone.

Given how much time they spent on the single player.. to put a multiplayer that wasnt up to the same standards would have just been silly.
Its good to see a great SP only game. I think its a nice change. As much as I would have loved MP or even COOP its still a brilliant brilliant game.

        • The first is hard but after with anti-armor bullet it's more easy. You can use the automatic defense system (after hacking) in order to help you, just bring the big daddy in front of the machine.

          • I have to say i find it more than scary.
Home alone, late at night, i can really give it no more than 45 minutes at a time, and leave it with my adrenaline well up for hours afterward.
It's extremely unsettling, from the very very dark lighting to the mobs (how they jump at me, how they react to the hits, how they die, what they say), from the incredible sound-scapes (I'm dying without my 5.1) to the oppressive underwater environment.
It's impressive how hacking a security bot means company, and ensuing relax.
The only thing i can level at the guys, it's that i am likely missing out on most of the work they put into it...
I'm really above tense for most of the time...

            • I have just sorted out that mental surgeon, he was very disturbing.

I agree with Lele with the fear thing, I am usually absolutely useless at playing horror games - I think mainly down to an overactive imagination and nervous system I think!

But as soon as I grasped the one-two idea, stun then and then clock em with the wrench, I suddenly became much less tense.

I am really enjoying it now and I love how constantly surprises you!
One bit that really shook me up was when I picked up the shotgun from the middle of the floor and the lights went off and suddenly about 6 splicers jumped out to get me! eeek.

              • yeah that bit was great

but on hard im basically running around trying to kill the last big daddy with nothing other than a wrench!

very... repetitive to revive and run back to him again...

also... i've got girl less big daddies? and girls dissapearing into the hole in the wall, and never coming out because the big daddy dies and does not knock to let her out

having to kill 5 daddies to get 3 girls!

                • It used to scare me good, but now.. not at all. Used to lie on my bed.. lights off.. really close to my TV so its takes up all my vision.. totally immersed in the game. Made me jump a few times. But you get used to it.. you start to expect the suprises.. but it still gets me now and then

Im enjoying it more now so its less spoke, plus the later stages are move open and lit.

Yeah big daddies often wander around with the little sisters.. just run off and kill a couple of splicers and when you come back they should be pair up

                  • wow

A few days ago, i bought the game, too.
It's absolutly amazing... when i think back in time, its one of the rare games which kept me playing with a high level of tension all the time. The first steps have been scary, but after a while you are used to it. Except splicers, which pretend to be dead, rooms without light and toillets FortFrolic was great, but i've just finished Hephaistos... awesome...no more to say.

                    • -Spoiler alert!-

I finished the game a couple of days ago and I now have my MSN buddy name thingy set to "Would you kindly give me $100?" :P

I experienced a REALLY weird bug though. In the Fort Frolic level I played as usual, followed the storyline and went on your given mission to take pictures and such. Rather then going back and delivering the pics as I got them I did all at once and so spent quite a lot of time in the mall place. Hunted all three Big Daddies and finished the mission and headed back. I went back, put up the pictures and was attacked by splicers (not very surprising). After killing them I was up on the second floor in the corridor and headed out on the balcony to go back down to the "artwork" when suddenly I heard a scream and looked down as a body was flung into the center of the room from below me. In came another little sister followed by a big daddy and 3 more splicers in wild pursuit. The little sister escaped up the stairs towards me as the fight continued below. At this point the 4'th splicer got up and joined the fight again and I just watched in shock for a while until I went down and took out the big daddy. I then went over to the little sister and rescued her, at which point the game told me I had rescued little sister 4 out of 3 and I was given the next gift a level early.
Sadly I at the same time got the bug where you "loose" the picture of the "ice man" and so had to restart the level. still got a savegame from there though. I wish I could have kept playing. wonder what would've happened...

im up to the underwater botanical gardens bit... very pretty
really enjoying the game now, ill play it through again on easy i think after having done hard, just for the sight seeing.

got the camera last night, nice of the baddies to wait for your polariod to develop before resuming trying to kill you!

                        • yesterday got the game. Well I had soem problems with making it work on vista x64. Had to install newest nvidia beta drivers + new directx. Also had to disable tablet pc in vista system becasue hame freeze just after loading first level. Window mode helped a bit but finall solution was to disable tablet pc. Anyway game is FANTASTIC!!! I was a bit worried that will be petrified after few minutes of gameplay (my heart didn't let me play doom 3 but this game is made the way that you're just curious what's coming next !!!

                            • I got the camera last night and now have loads of nice plasmids!
Killed some big daddys and saved some little sisters too.
I love this game, but I am edging towards Edge's review of 8/10 rather than the rabid reviews of most other magazines and web sites though because under all the gorgeous window dressing and awesome plot line it is still fundamentally a FPS which doesn't really do anything to truly revolutionise the genre apart from impart incredible new levels of production values.
