Im sure ull do great things over there Lele!
But most of them u wont be able to talk about due to NDAs and stuff!

Im amazed at the quality of FF plugins, had the opportunity to see Krakatoa in action and it
was impressive. Connect that with the new Thinking Particles 3 and we are talking business!

I strongly believe that an arch forum is not the best place to look for people, but at the same time im sure they will be searching in other places too. On the other hand, it is true that the very best vray experts are wandering around, hiding in the shadows. Its encouraging to see a hi level company being 3dsmax+vray based, since it looks like everyone's using maya these days.

Hey Lele get us informed about your progress at your new life! What position will u be holding? Oh, and good luck with your hiring, Frantic Films!
Eheh I mentioned the place, food, weather, and so on, because being pretty much in the middle of nowhere, at -30 degrees in winter, *might* scare someone off, no matter the job to do or the money paid
There's people who would give a kidney, for instance, to work in London, or L.A., or Barbados because of the quality of (night) life in these places.
In any case, for someone with a love for scripting, the idea of having Bobo in the office sold me the job right away.
I would literally have gone there as a runner, to have the chance of peeking into the RnD department and watching Bobo work.
I've been hired as LnR TD, however, and yes, I am extremely curious to see a max-based pipeline at work for something that isn't games, or the odd shot of VFX.
But enough of me, I posted only to endorse the company, for the little I've come to know of them thus far.
Come on, Spam Jonathan's PM inbox, people!

What is puzzling me about these job offers is the connection between VFX and unreal 3 engine.
Why is experience with a game engine so important when dealing with vfx and live action shots?

            There is a connection there?

The only thing I found useful from games, is the texturing. The get a great sence of realism with textures at minimal costs. By learning their approach you can get a great improvement in your vfx work.
Specifically about unreal 3, I briefly played the game, and didnt find anything spectacular about it.

Im noting it because in their job details, they state:

              Requirements:

              - In Game Effects Artists preferably with Unreal 3 Game Engine experience
              - Experience creating real time effects through proprietary engines.

This is quite different. I would assume (thought havent done this my self) but often game companies come to vfx companies to create commercials. They give them their engines, and models and so on, and let the vfx company refine whats there and bring it to a more appealing level. Then they create a cinematic from that. So, in theory they are using the game's engine but its not what you will see in game.
This is one of the ways. The other, thought I havent seen it in practice, some of the game engines nowadays have such powerful systems of effects that they can be intergrated into vfx.

We do like Max and VRay immensely here but it would probably be hard to list off the variety of software we use without going on and on. I'll just say that Max and VRay keep getting better with every release. This makes it harder and harder for us to use anything else unless the job calls for it from a logistical POV... usually having to do with client, co-op shop or technical limitation issues.

Well all experience is a bit arbitrary till we see some relative work Feel free to send us what you think best shows that you can do what we are looking for and we'll have more of a perspective on what two years of experience translates to.
