One of the posts here actually hit the nail on the head...mental ray ships with max and its free.
I love vray and dont want to learn MR! but i need to purchase a few more liscences of Vray (3+), my partner refuses due to the fact that reasonably good images are produced with MR, specially after the improvements in Max 2008.
Is there a package liscencing policy for Vray that is much cheaper than buying individual liscences?
Thanks
Vivek

about the pro-materials.
These materials look to me like a couple of standards with some extra features (such as the paint shadere having a methode of applying such as roller, brush, etc)
I'm 100% you chaos guys can create them also if you have some time left here and there.
But this will be just recreating what is already made by autodesk and not be that inventive. So maybe it's an idea to include a sample "pro-vray" material and include it the SDK.
The SDK should then have a topic on creating material. from loading a template c++ project to finalize the material.
This way you have a more open way to users. users can create material by them self if you know how it works.
From my experiance it's a little hard if i would recreate the pro-material for vray by using the sdk from 1.5.My Homepage : http://www.pixelstudio.nl

We can provide a converter from the pro materials to V-Ray materials; they are all based on the Arch&Design material plus some bitmaps and procedural textures, so it is not too hard to match them with V-Ray.
Best regards,
VladoI only act like I know everything, Rogers.

Heres a question, Im still downloading the trial, but can you activate the trial with your subscription serial as some of the versions in the past or is it strictly a trial only version?

I have downloaded and installed 2009. I think it is a full version and once your time is up you can enter your serial number. At the install it asks you for your serial number and if you don't have it enter 000-000000.Bobby Parker

ok i tried the demo.
i must say, the new color correct and composite maps alone justify the update for me.
perfect implementation, IMHO.
i don't care for the other features (yet).
i have mixed feelings about the new render window. the region selection is much better than before, but it's all a bit cluttered, with the docking windows.Marc Lorenz

Hi Vlado,
well it would be nice to have the converter you are talking about. As i could see from the videos, one can get the revit objects very easy to max.
Well the materials are rather simple , but of course , we would like the workflow between revit and max,
so a converter from the materials to vray would ber very very very nice !!!

Spline mapping sounds like it is worth investigation. So many times I've wanted to curve a map around a custom made model and to do so is unecessarily complicated.

I agree. Very useful feature.

one thing about the promaterials, they seems to have some seems....too bad.
Still, if you make interior renders, with or without animations, you'd still better use Vray.
It's a lot faster, easier to understand, and has less problems and better results.
