That is why I also said sometimes you have to accept the changes without justification. It is mistake to try and gauge your job value by how deep you think the clients pockets are. That only gives you a sense of how much they *might* be able to spend. It doesn't tell you how much they have left over for your part, or simply how much they are willing to spend on it - regardless of the reasons they might have. You simply cannot control that, and your understanding it or not doesn't change it.

That sucks, but in a buyers market - which is what we are talking about here- you have to work with the realities.

posting in this very old thread.. and this haunts me even more now! In Past one month i have received 3 inquiries where i was asked to quote for interior renderings & i was offered between 25 to 50 USD per image! I remember the time when even 500 usd for an image was considered as low . With time, generally services gets expensive e.g i pay almost double for my hair cut as compared to 2011 when i started this thread haha! whereas in our field currently i am seeing people working 10 to 15 times lower the cost i was offering 6 years ago!

That's a joke! I would ignore those people. I am reading a good book from the Freelancers Union, which I would recommend.

I consistently get between $800 and $1200 for an interior. I work tirelessly on these images and I spend a couple hundred on props and assets for the spaces. You have to vet these losers out and work on getting quality clients who will appreciate what you can do.

I have the paper copy and I am also reading it on my Kindle. The book talks about avoiding these freelance sites like the plague.

Oh man, he is using the sales 101 tactics. "The cheaper I pay you the more work I can send" That is assinine. Tell you what, I have a helper out of India and I must be making him rich. I pay him what I would pay a guy next door, here in the states. There was a guy who used to bug me all the time for advice. He was in Africa and he was struggling for $25 an image. I told him the next time someone asked for a price, tell them what you need to make and don't settle for less. After about a year he finally did it, the client accepted, and he never looked back. He consistently signs high profile projects, gets paid what he asks, and he gets his 50% deposit, which he swore would never happen.

I don't mean to dwell on this topic, but it makes me mad how people cheapen what we do. A couple months ago a guy wanted me to do his houses. He had many of them, I think 20, and he had a budget of $150 a house. He already had someone committed to it, but he liked my work so he wanted me to do them. I told him that we were not even in the same ballpark on a fee, so I wished him luck. Yesterday I just signed 38 houses at $1400 a house. We have to earn what makes sense. I want to get up and look forward to working; look forward to creating something awesome my clients can use to make their money. How miserable would I be to work on a project that I wasn't making any money on? I would be miserable and so would my client. I would continue to get good paying projects and he wouldn't have any priority. He would get exactly what he paid for, which is a rushed job without any passion and that's not what I want to do for a living. You have no skin in the game, so why would you work for less so he can build a business? The whole thing makes absolutely no sense and he should be ashamed and you should be offended.

If i think only of arch viz industry, majority of the work is done on Autodesk products or google sketchup etc with rendering engine like vray & few others... so i am assuming that those who are already working this low must be using one of these softwares.. so how are they affording it? If they are using pirated copies thn who should be blamed for this? Is lack of will making it difficult to curb piracy or is it really that difficult? especially when there are just hand full of companies on which the entire planning & architecture industry is based i.e autodesk & few others.. Isnt it possible for them to form an association and do something to tackle this together..

In answer to the original question, I would say "undoubtedly". I think you've found yourself in an oversaturated and underpaid corner of the industry. Finding a style and an identity, or just ramping up your quality (i know it's easier said than done) might be the way to move on up.
