Being from the UK, I have found what works for me is to accept that I am not nor ever will be the cheapest. If cheap is what a potential client is after, then I'm not for them.
What they get from me is service, and a very high quality one at that.
And when all is said and done, the work I do does actually work out 'cheaper' because of the amount of hours and passion I put into my work.
I have to say one thing though - I really don't care too much any more for potential Property Developer clients (well, at least a certain type) - in my experience they are the worst for wanting low prices. I'm very nearly at the point of rejecting *any* enquiries from such client types with a simple "I'm sorry, I don't touch property developments".
(because to give them an accurate price takes time to properly evaluate their project).
They look at you like they do building materials from a builder's merchants, like bricks, sand and bags of cement, i.e. what's the unit cost, how does all this affect my bottom line.........
