it just says they fixed quad chamfer calculations, so I'm guessing it's still there.
Also, of note, this is a Very necessary update for people who use the save incremental button. I guess instead of adding numbers it would just add "_01" to everything. So you'd end up with "MyFileName_01_01_01_01_01_01" on the 5th incremented save. Not sure I'd want to know what it would look like after 40 or so.

does anyone actually start using new releases of max before about 6 months have passed?
I so wish they would drop the yearly release schedule. I dont even mind paying yearly for support, ala itoosoft for example, I think they have a decent pricing model.
also re: that incremental save thing, do they even have beta testers? how can stuff like that slip through??
ok, rant over. apologies.
Oh, It's FRIDAY! Woohoo!

I was asked to test when I was using showcase. And I was going to beta test for them, until I realized how much work it is. They want a minimum amount of time spent doing different activities.
Basically, they want you to use their software and commit a minimum amount of time, keep a certain number of reports coming their way, etc....but you get nothing from them. The activities that they were asking looked like something they should be paying Me for, not the other way around. So I said, forget it. That also lead me to believe that their beta testers are a very select few who simply enjoy that sort of activity, which might suggest it's only one personality type. This is a Huge mistake. By personality type, I mean something like the difference between an industrial designer, and an engineer. They may sometimes use the same software, but in very different ways, and they Think differently. If you want a single piece of software to be usable by both groups, you better make sure and have a sample of both groups.
If I were running the beta groups I'd be using it as a sales tool as well. Find someone who isn't using it and Give them the beta for free, without the need to purchase the software. Just hook them up in a way that they aren't needing any other software, at the sacrifice of potential data loss. (it's not really much higher than any other day when working with their beta versions if you keep good practices like not saving over your files). I'd then group them asking them what they use, and how they use it. I'd make sure and have at least 3 of each group utilizing each section of the software, if applicable. That keeps the number small enough I could call every one of them and not have to have them fill out reports, even if there is nothing to report.
For one, they completely miss smaller studios because I can't use their beta. I may not even use Max for 2 months, then I use it for 3 with 80% usage.
And I do use the new software if there's a feature that is really just a Fix (most of them). I usually just wait 2-3 weeks after the rants about bugs stop, which is usually shortly after SP2. If this is a good version, then I could switch in 2 weeks. Otherwise I'll be waiting until June, 2 weeks after SP2 is released. And maybe 2 weeks after that when they break something with SP2 and quickly recall SP2, then rerelease it without telling anyone. lol
