So what are everyone's general impressions of Max 2015 then? I can see myself skipping this release but I'd like to hear if people have found it stable and snappy. Any issues? Minor or major?

I rencently Installed win8.1 on serveral Alienware laptops that were build for Vista. There were windows 7 drivers and this worked perfecly. Even better then windows 7 with all win7 drivers.

Indeed. As far as I'm aware the only things that can be problematic on a laptop are touchpad and keyboard drivers for special keys etc. Everything else is standard - chipset, graphics chip/card, sound etc.

Yeah, I feel the same way. I'm coming from 3ds 2012, and it's been a shock trying to dial back on all the visual garbage. I'm also disturbed by the fact that they changed the orientation of the arrows for tools like weld. The arrows going left/right made more sense for clicking and dragging. Now they go up/down. arg! wtf.

but yeah, quad chamfer is nice to have right out of the box...

How is max 2015's stability and viewport performance compared to 2014?

I think all the major plugins are now updated for 2015, right?

I'm thinking about moving over to it in the next few weeks.

So how are you going to find and issues or give real input? If you hardly use Max for longer periods of time how are you going to find time to test? There is quite a diverse group of beta testers, then there are the charter groups etc. While many things sound simple and straight forward they get increasingly difficult with growing userbase and diversity. There are a LOT of things that i personally would think nobody could have a different opinion on, and yet...many many people do

Just check some of the longer threads here on the board

Note: I am not saying i am really happy with the way max development and releases are being handled nor with the direction it took often enough in the past.

I'm enjoying Max 2015 and sp1 so far
                Viewport seems faster than 2014.

I do have some small weird annoying thing when orbiting and panning using the mousewheel, but when I use the icons bottom RIGHT all its fine

I was super excited about the nested layering. I've been using Outliner for the past two years and I thought for sure it would do the one thing that Outliner can't: keep layers nested in merges and xrefs. But nope. Doesn't do it.

It looks like you can nest layers, but you're saying you can't nest with xrefs?
But at least for me it's become a hindrance in how quickly I can organize layers to keep organized.

                      click on layer to select
right click, select child nodes (this selects all the objects in the layer)
right click on any layer(again), Add Selection To / New Parent (pick) (click)
click (again), on layer you want objects moved to.

ctrl+c will toggle having all the objects in a layer be selected. Once used it stays on until you press ctrl+c again.
besides all this, the Explorer seems to calculate everything in the scene each time it's opened, which I think before it only did at the moments when you actually opened/exposed a layer

does anyone have a suggested workflow that works with this to quickly organize layers?

You can nest them after merging/xreffing, but a file that already has nested layers will not carry that nesting into the file you import it into.

Layer is a property of object.
Each objects remembers where it belongs to.
Therefore, currently if you merged object, the object try to find the same name layer that they were belong to.
If they found one, they go there.
If they could not find one, they make the layer under root.

One of work around is that setting up nested layer first and merge.
I know it is not ideal. But, you can do this until max team implement proper merge for nested layer.

Because you can not have a duplicated name layer, merging nested layer becomes a little complicated process.
I guess max team needs a little of time to sort out these things.

I also made some script for new layer explorer.
                            It's free.

                              Hi,

Does anyone have some trouble like me to download : http://knowledge.autodesk.com/suppor...urity-fix.html

The link seem to be broken for 3ds max but not for 3dsmax design
                              (Sorry for my bad english)
