I am in desperate need of more horsepower. My last EBAY buy, with the help of you guys, was a success. Now, what about this one?

it will be probably enough, or you could look into new i7, they have lots of power as well. Not refurbished though. I kinda buy hardware once every 6-7 years and buy it with that in mind, so generally it should perform upto par for next 5-6 years (7th being the year of replacement).

No I don't have a new i7, I think I read in another forum that they might host 8 cores, or current ones have 6 but they run at high clock like 4.2 ghz.

btw, that second spec you posted from ebay has 1.8 ghz cpu - try to avoid low frequency cpus, they will be slow. High ghz cpu with lots of L cache and high Gigathread is what you are after.

Depends on what you want to spend bobby, I mean an expensive but powerful pc if used all the time will surely pay for it self, so cheeping out (for me) is not really best way to invest Just make sure you do the math, with xeon and i7 add the cores + ghz and see what you get (also bare in mind turbo frequencies) as that's what the actual cpu speed becomes during rendering.

Hmm its a quad core, be aware, better get 6 core if you are after i7, more cores = better. You are paying more for the video card then anything else, if you are after cpu render power I don't think this is best choice.
