Do we get a free UPGRADE, but have to buy the DVD/flash (whatever) or will free ISOs /DVDs be available from MS that will work with Win7 product keys?
I only ask (and I know I should google it myself) because what happens when you do need to do a clean install, if you replace the master harddrive, or total system melt down. Would you have to reinstall win7 and then wait for the upgrade to download again?
I think I will be waiting until I really need to,as win7pro works, not sure I need a new interface for it.

EDIT: Most of the stuff I've "read" regarding Windows 10 is either crap or hyped up beyond belief. Most things are just misunderstood or non-issues for most users. I don't know how quickly I will rollout Windows 10 at the office and renderfarm...too many unknowns at this point and right now, things just work!
Are you on a pro version? I do not have that many options, I have Automatic and Notify to schedule restart. Yep, that is it. One of the benefits of the pro version is that you have more options about when updates are installed.

Yes, I've never been on anything else but the professional version. No Home version here...ever. LOL

I only have it on my personal laptop so far, not brave enough to upgrade my workstation yet (it has pro as well).

I definitely wouldn't upgrade in the middle of anything...definitely do it when you know you will have a day or two of downtime to work out any kinks that may arise. It's common sense type stuff, but some people jump in head first! LOL

I tried the upgrade path on some of my render slaves. Cannot get VRSpawner or VR RT Render Server to register and start as services. Could manually launch VRSpawner on the slave machine, after which the slave participated fine in the distributed rendering task.
So for now, I'm going to reformat new and restore the slaves to Win-7-64 until things are more stable.

Edit: Right click the menu item to register the VRSpawner, select run as administrator, and it registers correctly. No problems after that with DR on the farm. Can it be that Win10 is a bit faster, or is it my imagination?

hm.. i didnt realise windows 10 was going in that direction... seems like a solid reason to stick with win7.

Overblown, in my view. When you install 10 it allows you to customise the installation, which of course you must always do. It then comes up with a long series of questions allowing you to turn off anything you're not happy with, including anything that would send info back to MS. Turn them all off and you're back in the same seat as you were with 8, 7, vista, XP or whatever.

Win 10 is supposed to bring significant benefits for multimonitor users (which I'd guess is most of us working in graphics), apart from smaller memory overhead, faster boots and other benefits, not to mention it's free (that's many hundreds of pounds saved for me) so as far as I'm concerned this is kind of a no-brainer. I will be rolling it out once it's been through a few rounds of updates to squash any obvious bugs, and once all the main packages and plugins fully support it. I'm guessing 6 months or so.

I've bee on Windows 10 for a month, quite like it, much better than Windows 8 and works much better on my UHD monitor than 7 ever will. 3dsmax 2014-2016 work fine. Vray 3 works fine but I did need to download and install the latest WIBU drivers to make my dongle work.

Yeah, most stories about Windows 10 have been blown WAY out of proportion and/or clearly not understood by the person writing the story. If you are willing to take the time and customize Windows 10, it will behave almost like windows 7, only better!

I did a LOT of custom settings in Win7 to get it to work the way I wanted it too!

IMHO Marketing is getting seriously out of hand, most TV shows that i watch on cable lately have equal and what seems like less air time than the commercials that are running on them, I'm dreading the day Netflix or Apple TV shows start letting commercials on their platform. Also lately websites, it seems like almost every site I go to lately you have to click through 2 to 4 popups ranging everything from Today's Specials, chat with our staff, take our survey... and now with what sounds like Winblows10 sending advertising to the desktop and other apps Ill gladly pay what ever if possible to keep from being bombarded by ads. Ive worked in marketing for over 20 years now and although I like the work I hate that in today's society that we are bombarded by ads absolutely everywhere...

                                *sry about the rant* :P
                                Cheers,
