All the machines in my office running Win 8.1 were updated the very first day windows 10 was released and those people thank me daily for the update! It's a really solid upgrade from Win 8. The windows 7 machines will probably wait a little longer until our slow period before I go updating to 10 to activate and then installing Win10 fresh.
I have a question, if I want to do a fresh install of WIN10 do I use my Win8.1 key or do I get a new one?

You can't do a fresh install.

There are a bunch of articles on-line that will walk you through the process. Short answer is that you need to upgrade first to get your "free" license and then once it's activated you can install Windows 10 as a fresh install. It's a PITA, but that's the way it is.

I mean an install that only has the bare minimum features for a render node to save on disk space.

Well so far Windows 10 wasn't so bad until I had to edit some video from a project from a couple months ago and now premiere and after effects cc2014 both are having major issues. going to reinstall the master collection tonight and see if that resolves anything or just backup and wipe this thing and try a fresh install of Windows 10. According to M$ I have about 2 more weeks with the option to roll back to Win8.1 which is looking like an option at the moment.
                Cheers,

I would backup your settings, and then uninstall anything CC related. Install fresh and see if that fixes things before wiping the OS. CC is working well here, so something could have gotten botched up regarding the registry.

Yea that was going to be my next move, Ive already tried resetting Premiere and AE and still flaky...

I completed a big project and I had some days without much to do, so I upgraded to 10.

Some odd problems that had been creeping up on me in Win7 with my USB audio interface were much worse with the Win10 upgrade, so I took a blank SSD out of storage, installed Win7 on that, and upgraded that to Win10, and reinstalled everything.

It's been 2 years since I started fresh, so it was time I did that anyhow. So far everything is wonderful. And after customizing the crap out of my Start Menu, I'm actually kinda loving it (knock on wood).

I discovered something interesting though: When I installed Win7 on a blank disk, and installed every single Windows Update (I ran it multiple times to be sure I got them all), I saw it took 70 Gb. After upgrading the disk to Win10 (and before installing anything else) I ran the Disk Cleanup utility and cleaned out all things Win7. I found that Windows 10 only takes up 55 Gb!

Oh, the one snag was getting Quicktime to install, but I found a remedy on the internet.

I've expressed my opinion many times in this thread...still going strong with Windows 10 and it's my favorite version of windows to date! Handles everything I throw at it without any complaints.

NOTE: I only use a fresh install of any windows OS installation. For the windows 10 license, yes I had to update win7 to get my license "activated", but once through that part...wipe SSD and started fresh. Just FYI if you are having any strange behavior. Cheers!

I almost hate to admit it but I agree that Win10 is pretty good, Ive been running it for some time now and its been pretty solid, so much so that I'll probably upgrade the rest of my machines to Win10

Thanks again for your time in posting Troy

I think it's almost like second nature...we're supposed to hate the next version of windows because they have messed it up so many times, (Vista, Win that we just get a little pessimistic. I know several times that I would second guess myself before publicly stating that I like X version of windows! hahaha

LOL so true, the only Windows that I absolutely hated (along with the rest of humanity) is Windows ME. Now that was one horrible release lol. But yes I agree that a lot of us are jaded in to dreading the "new" as more often than not its a steb back rather than a step forward but this time I think M$ got it right for the most part.
