Well, you are not alone. Maya 2016 is now sp5 and is barely usable. It crashes when you toggle filtering in hypershade. Or editing uvs. However for me maya crashes a lot less. And very often is a fault of a plugin not a maya it self, probably same in max.

I only run a couple plugins. I made sure of that many releases ago. Basically, I use V-Ray, Forest Pack Pro, and PSD Manager. Other than that, I am stock MAX 2015.Bobby Parker

The wait times you are experiencing seem overly long- even for 3ds Max, so sounds like something's gone wrong somewhere. Interesting to see if your new machine is the same. VP Walls & Tiles seems to crash renders / slow down my material browser. I've noticed because it hasn't been installed that long. To be fair, I don't think I've updated to the very latest version though.

Since I have you here, How do I license my PSD manager. The help file is blank and the same question, on the forum, has gone unanswered for about a year. I have a new machine and I am not sure I can live without PSD Manager
Originally posted by dans View PostAs the developer of psd-manager I feel a little bit offended by this statement (maybe just lost in translation, the term fingerpointing in german has a negativ vibe).
To sum it up - if you cancel mid render - psd-manager does nothing. However, V-Ray simply shows the name of the first render effect in the progress dialog, while it or 3ds max itself still cleans up memory or something else (I don't know). We discussed this way back both in the psd-manager forum and in the Cebas forum.
For reference: http://forums.chaosgroup.com/showthread.php?69096-PSD-Manager-Slow-to-kill&highlight=psd+manager
We both also discussed this delay in the Cebas forum and there you made Mu********er out as the cause. I outlined some simple steps to clearly figure out what exactly triggers this behaviour. Unfortunately the thread is still waiting for your reply. So that is were things stopped.
Cebas forum thread: http://www.cebas.com/forum/index.php?topic=152.0
I'm not saying that psd-manager could not in some way trigger that behaviour. It has to request certain data from the renderer when rendering begins (G-Buffer channels). However, psd-manager is not responsible for the delay when cancelling the render. The plugin is not doing anything at that point in time - the render progress dialog display text is misleading (just put some other render effect as the first one).

New machine, new installs, no extra plugin, and 3DS MAX is doggy as heck! Takes seconds to open anything; 30 second for material browser. So, you can't get much better proof than that; MAX is just a bloated mess.Bobby Parker

From your question I'm assuming your IP-Clamp license manager is installed on your old PC (open cebas IP-Clamp there and see if the license is listed in the Licensing tab if you are unsure) and you didn't buy a new copy for your new PC. If that is then proceed like this:
If you will keep using that old machine (e.g. for network rendering) and it will be on the same network and always turned on if you want to use psd-manager:
You can keep using the old machine as your license server and just enter the IP address of the old machine during psd-manager installation on the new machine.
If you want to retire the old PC, you need to install the license manager (IP-Clamp) to a new location such as the new PC or a central file server you use:
Install IP-Clamp (if you downloaded the lastest psd-manager version it will be inside the ZIP archive: ip-clamp1.4.exe) then run it as Administrator and go to the Request Tab. There you enter all your details (make sure the correct network card is selected at the bottom as this will be your dongle) then click on Request. This will save a license request file that you simply send to register@cebas.com and mention in that email that you installed a new pc, need to move your psd-manager license and will not be using the old one anymore. You will get back a license file that you will Import using IP-Clamp. So start IP-Clamp as Administrator, go to the Licensing Tab and click on Import. You now pick the file you received. You should now see your license listed on the Licensing Tab. When installing psd-manager just point it to the IP-address of your license server or if is installed on the same machine, just keep the defaults.
Hope that helps,
Daniel

That was without updates. Now, I am install the service packs. We'll see... I'll give a progress. With 36/72 cores, a 6GB video card, and 128GB of RAM, it isn't a lack of resources.Bobby Parker
