Autodesk have done it again - This time with the Arnold Render
I don't think they were paying all that much for mental ray...
Best regards,
Vlado
I trust you have a lot better sources than I do. Non the less even if that was a case... "not all that much" is still better spent on a capable renderer than a Mental Ray i think

It was my understanding that they were/are paying a hefty licensing cost annually, and will be until 3 years after they stop including it in their software. Ouch.
I really don't get the subscription, other than greed. If the software works, leave it alone and just sell it. There will always be new users coming on board, so they'll always be revenue. I know corporate greed; I have seen it first hand, so that might be what's going on. Everyone wants a cash cow and if you can invent a way to create one, you will, if you are greedy. Nobody is crying for fast iteration, so saying you are moving to subscription so everyone is on the same version, is hogwash. We are now buying the same software over and over, every year. It's absurd!
Also, be careful using their 360 service. Apparently, if you use it, they own your work.

Bobby, that gave me quite a shock! But then if you read the first sentence - it seems to me it is in relation to their ability to provide and maintain their service. Further down they have various language about protecting your content. Just saying - yes the legalese is bad, but you may be reading too much into it.
I am not a layer, but it looks to say that they can use your work in any way they want. It sound very much like Facebook's disclaimer saying that they can use your images without your permission for anything they want.
