Affinity Photo has *one* thing which for me sets it miles ahead of Photoshop, and that is treating color internally as floating point, not integers.
Something Adobe has never been able to let go of entirely (witness effects working only at some depth or the other), and appears unwilling to change in the future (it's like 15 years since EXR became a de-facto standard...).

I bought my copy while still in beta to show support to the company's vision, and it kinda makes me sad i don't need more. XD

I bought the beta as a donation to encourage Serif to develop more but it turned out that it's actually a product I like better.
I find Affinity Photo has overtaken my workflow for photography. The infill brush tool is phenomenal. Sadly I still rely on Lightroom and was disheartened to hear they have suspended their DAM product.

Affinity sadly lacks with rendering (in my own workflow) as there is no "smart objects" that update automatically as it does with Photoshop. Like referencing in EXRS is just so useful with Photoshop.

It also is puzzling why they chose not to save the tool's settings between sessions. Quite infuriating to set tool defaults only to be reset on a new document. Real head scratcher that one.

Indeed it has great features mixed in with fairly odd quirks.
My reasoning is that it's easier to fix a quirk than to find great ideas, so in my book it's just a case of being patient...

I hope Adobe doesn't acquire Affinity because they got a reasonable big hit with it....$39 for a permanent license is almost a joke comparing to Photoshop.

is sarcasm? Adobe is much bigger company and leading the sector...They are already losing clients, money, etc so if I was Adobe and somebody is messing my subscription I would try to buy it of course.... Chaos did it too, besides all the bla,bla,bla...Corona was taking little by little a big piece of the cake so in our field everything is possible.

                No, wait.
Both Chaos and R.L. were privately held companies, there was no way an hostile takeover could have happened.
AD in the past tried buying Chaosgroup, or so the rumor goes, but at the polite "no" answer that was the end of the story.

Serif itself is a Ltd. in the UK, and while i'm no expert, that too should keep it safe from forced moves, be it by Apple, Adobe, or myself (if i found the capital under a rock, all of a sudden.).

Lele...there are separated but at the end of the day, they are now under the same umbrella.Corona was, in my opinion, the only render engine capable to do real damage to v-ray so they turned what it could be a bad situation in something good for both.(It is a positive merge). Everybody knows what AD is and Adobe is almost in the same category IMO, I don't know much about Serif, they have something for Illustrator and a new product similar for InDesign I think...so step by step they are going to talk all the unhappy customers because of the subscriptions and poor improvements over the years....Money talks!!

I had, and have, no intention of going over personal impressions on the merger.
I merely pointed out the -to me- obvious: there is no buying private property unless the owner agrees to it.

obviously, companies buy and sell in their best interest ...I have a license of t-splines for Rhino...AD acquired t-splines to used in mechanical desktop and fusion 360...the Rhino version is almost dead.....going back to affinity, I hope they can keep it out of the monopolies

I'm playing with it at present but it has some big downsides for me.

Namely, ArionFX, while it will run in Affinity, won't work in 32bit images, which defeats much of the purpose. It's a pretty non-negotiable plugin for me to have.
The other thing is, Affinity's tone-mapping mode (which I'm trying to use in the absence of ArionFX) is destructive!? There seems to be no equivalent of Photoshop's "smart objects" allowing it to be applied as a filter that you can edit.

So yeah, it's nice having things like the magic wand work in 32bit, but with stuff like the aforementioned, I can't really switch to it.

The lack of smart objects for Tone Mapping is an annoyance, I save my Tone Map settings as a Preset and place that on a copy of the layer I wish to apply it to (gets around the smart object issue for me for now - I asked for this exact same thing as a wish quite a while ago, like a year, so they are aware of it).

Be aware though, that AF was once 20GBP (the price I paid for it), and already I believe it's gone up to something like 50GBP (?) by the time it has all the lovely features you and I all want, it might not still be at such an attractive price.....

(personally, I love AF though still use PS CS6).

Is it still super slow for multilayered EXRs?
I bought it and hated its performance with massive images so went back to PS
