I think for future renders and it has been proven, progressive or adaptive renderers would be a way to go. Like Fprime, however unpolished and untested cant really say its good for production, but the concept behind it is very unique, which makes the render beat the todays generation.

I don't expect to get a demo at all. It is a bit silly that they have about four people that made all these renderings. And without any information on rendering times it won't be their strongest point.

I like the idea though that you can set a rendering time rather than changing hundreds of settings.

haha, but the minimum time setting is 3 days...

Yap, I like that idea too. But thinking twice, it can be quite unconfortable. Imagine the result doesn't satisfy you. You would need to render all over again and still hope you've set the right render time.

But (!) "unlike all other renderers on the market, Maxwell doesn't need time to render, it works on a different approach, Maxwell renders in a physically accurate way. Maxwell renders in money units! All you need to do is set how much money you need to earn with a particular project, and Maxwell will make the image that suit your needs" Interesting option, ha!

when maxwell render will be 1.0 we will have vray 1.5 and brazil2.0 already so its a hard competition there andall the renders looks amazing but grainy ,maybe only brute gl like brazil . they should relase a demo for it

Well, forget it. The rendersettings may be easy, but the materials you'll have to assign are more complex. If you want phys.accurate renderings you'll need phys.accurate materials and phys.accurate modeling. At this moment I'm doing a project with a very complex luminaire which lights the surroundings through glass caustics effects. I expect that Maxwell can do this accurately but with what rendertimes. Can I split the accuracy of the global lighting from this luminaire from the caustic accuracy to speed up rendering ? I know if this can be done in a reasonable time the luminaire manufacturer will be very happy

its not like brazil, as they wrote its accurate lightning.
                no QMC or such stuff.

it looks more like better radiosity with correct energy distribution, even taking care of not visible wavelength.

Not that it really seems to mention it on the webpage, but maxwell seems to be a standalone renderign engine... will they have a plug to a 3d package? if so, is it MAX or Maya? If its Maya, they are in pretty good shape. Their only competition there is Turtle and Mental Ray.

BTW... Arnold is still very much alive. It is being used by Paul Debevec's research group on a regular basis.

seems a bit odd they dont offer a demo.. ? so who will buy it on just there word that it is good ...and no screen shots of the UI.. ?

Maybe this new renderer could speed up the release of vray 1.5!!

FR released the SP 2d for stage 1 in 3dsma7!!

SO VLADO AND PETER MAYBE ARE UNDER PRESSURE NOW TO PUT ON THE MARKET this 1.5 release

                          Bye

Do you think they are sitting on their thumbs drinking pina coladas? I think that Peter and Vlado are working very hard on the 1.5 release, and I would much rather they not release it until it is ready. We we have been playing with the new features in 1.45 and 1.46 which are cool, they have some known bugs that need to be fixed. I am SURE that they are working around the clock to fix to release a very solid package.

I've sent them an e-mail, this is the reply:

Thanks, we will be adding some specs and more technical features in the next days.

A test version will be also available in 1-2 weeks.
