hmmm.. ill have to try it out. I have so many scenes I could test it out on. Im still betting that itll be kind of a toy though.

Damnit!!! The Light Spectrum goes from Infrared to Ultraviolet! This Energy is interpretated by the virtual Camera or a retina based on the different Frequencies of the Light. I don't know what you guys talking about but i think this sounds f@cking, incredibly cool!!!
It won't be as fast as Vray... sure. It might be slower than every serious nextgen renderer in the max market but it aims at a slightly different group of customers. We at Lichtecht will definately consider this renderer. It seems it comes to real World Light Physics as close as possible in the moment while staying still usable for the artist. (great great gallery...) When it properly supports DR this Renderer will be real fun with 40Ghz Computing Power...
They might even add Polarisation of Light and an Infrared Vision into it later... wow, really really cool.
(Vray will still be my Renderer of Choice for most of the daily Business. And we still don't know how it's coded. Realflow was an unstable joke.)

I have never seen renders of such a high quality, and even if this thing will render single frame for 5-10 hours, it's still acceptable for architecture visualisations, at least for stills.
They promised to release "a test version in 1-2 weeks, including connectivity to Max and Maya", btw. I think they will be able to takeover Maya market(ok, some sector of it) if will be fast enough.
Moreover, they walking in right direction, releasing stand-alone that will be connectable to different 3d packages(i hope imlementation of connector will be decent), and i hope it will be multiplatform - linux version are very demanded today.
Can't wait it, really.

my problem with it is twofold:
a.) alot of the images have alot of noise. If they cant get rid of it by the time they go final, then it wont work. Oh, and it needs to be done without endless renders.
b.) general speed. GI is JUST now becoming useable in production pipelines due to these heavy optimizations and adaptive sampling etc, oh and only really useable for animation if they have considerable render farms. I just cant see that this early into the game, they have created this renderer that doesn't need ANY of these.

But really, if this renderer can do what it does, and is easy to use, and not too slow, then I might just buy it. Cant wait to try out their demo.

Im sure i can drive a formular 1 car ...but im sure i wont be able to beat Michael Schumacher.... as always its the artist ... but it does look cool, but i would like to see some screen shots.

I've been watching this fantastic gallery and i have to say that some of those images have a really great quality.
I believe Maxwell is (will be) an exceptional GI render, however i was surprised about all that... "real world light physics"
Vray has the better light physics (in GI trems) i've ever seen. So i decided yesterday to do a small test with vray based on that image:

The image was made with GPM+IRRMAP.
Watching this i think Vray has very powerful GI engine and i also think that still is good enough for high-end architectural purposes.
Anyway i'm waiting too for the demo release to try it out...

Well, concerning your comment "Vray has the better light physics (in GI trems)" ...i don't know, actually i don't think so. If Maxwell is really based on Wavelength with all is concequences the description of light is far more advanced than that of Vray. However, as your test shows. In 99% of the cases, the most accurate result does not mean automatically the "better" render. Renderers are eventually just tools, Vray is an extreme well crafted one as you can show once again in your Image. (Because it is a great tool and pleases me so much as an artist i constantly try to make the workflow of it even better - Maxwell still has to show it's ability in this Area)Sascha Geddert

well percy, Wavelengths that penetrate a virtual Camera/Eye and produce glows and glare automatically based on the physical properties of everything sounds really nice and also usefull to me. Maxwell Should also be able to produce very nice caustic Effects with it's two GI methods. I really don't think it's just a Toy. Some things might be even so useful we will see them in other renderers too after a while. (I talked with Vlado about Metropolis Light Transport for example - it seems to be a nice technique with more complex brdf's.)

I looked at the maxwell renderer again and most of the images have a certain kind of organic grain/feeling i haven't seen in any other renderer (perhaps WinOsi a bit) It is really my hope that the more exact imitation of nature leads us to even more realism in computergraphics. So all what i said before still holds. I'm really looking forward to this renderer.Sascha Geddert

seems a bit odd they dont offer a demo.. ? so who will buy it on just there word that it is good ...and no screen shots of the UI.. ?
but whats more interesting is probably the render times are 25 hours per frame haha...thats why no word on thatDmitry Vinnik
