You have expressed it just right. The key is to be able to enjoy the down time without anxiety. I'm pretty good at it, and getting better at it over time, but there is a limit to how much fortitude I have. you learn about yourself in the process. Living within ones means and having a big emergency fund/ war chest is important.

Yep, like everyone, three months of bills in the bank is ideal. Right now I have enough regulars to maintain things and new people every month. At some point I need to expand or stop taking new clients. I don't want to be too busy where I can't take care of my regulars, so hopefully they are willing to pay a premium to sustain me, so I don't have to take every job that comes in.

Snapped some new pics - didn't clean up or style the office space... so yeah. Right now there's a whole mess of game boy parts as I've fallen into an obsession with modding game boys. But this nook was the compromise with my wife to give me at least one spot in our 600 sq ft apt to have as a man cave... closet. Space has been used recently for personal projects and occasional work projects that need more rendering power.

Yes! I had three this week. Google is king. If you Google things like exterior renderings or architectural renderings I come up. I also get referrals, which is always nice.

Nice! Looks very modern and I love the elf head. 600 s.f. is small, how do you manage? I guess if I think about it, we probably only use that much space in our house.

Thanks! I most certainly used my 3d previz skills for our renovation to make the 600 sf work
Did furniture layouts and we previewed all our fixtures, etc before committing. Probably one of my favorite 3d projects.

I have also used my arch viz abilities to confirm design choices like fixtures and tile and etc on remodeling of my house. spring of 2016 I ripped the only bath in mi casa down to the studs and sub floor. Re did it all with new fixtures, tile etc. Giant hassle. Two gotchas attached to every single step. Did all the carpentry, plumbing, electric, tile, drywall patching, texture painting myself. Hired an electrician to run new circuit for heat mat under floor and got an HVAC guy to help move the air duct that was in the space I wanted for the soap recess in the tub surround. 7 weeks of work in a 5 x 8 room. Total cost about 6K. If I did it for someone elase (which I wouldn't) it would have had to have been at least 20K.

Used arch viz for re doing kitchen floor and will be using it for pending kitchen re-model, which will hopefully be the last big remodel I will do. Cabinets, counter tops all 30+ years old and low quality to begin with.

Plus I have gotten good ideas of things I liked from renderings of projects for others. Like the sink in the bath and the dining pendant light I'm about to put in.

Here is rendering and then photo of completed bath. Not exact and not as much care as if done for a client. I used clipping planes in the rendering and ultimately chose a slightly different sink and better floor tile plus other minor differences. It really helped me confirm the tile and fixture choices. Actually was critical to this.

                          This thread has legs!
