It does indeed look impressive in any number of ways....but; sadly there is no alternative or comparable scattering tool to Forest, so for most archvis types that's a gap it'll need to fill to attract that specific audience.
I'm sure it'll come and I, like most, will be keeping an eye on its dev path
Hopefully my ageing brain can cope with the curve after....hmm....yep, all the way back to clunky DOS 3dstudio ...LOL

What about using the particle system for this purpose like in the video below? Admittedly, It's probably not as advanced as Forest Pack, but I think it covers the majority of use cases for most people?

I'm still on Max 2016. Seeing what a FREE software can do takes all the enthusiasm out of the idea of shelling out $1,500 (at least) to upgrade Max and get locked into their subscription racket.

            Yep, it's pretty depressing.

Here are some other cool stuff in Blender 2.8 to lift up your mood:

An interesting add-on I came across. Quad menus for Blender 2.8 like the ones in 3ds Max:

Does anybody know of decent, up to date Blender 2.8 training/tutorial for migrating? Something that goes over the interface and how do work in Blender, but without stopping to explain basic 3D concepts?

Eevee is pretty amazing at first glance, and I really want to use it for personal projects... But as soon as I pull myself together to have some fun in it, I run into a ton of bizarre interface quirks that stop me dead in my tracks. And it's only worsened by watching older tutorials where the buttons and panels are in different places.

I wanted to start to learn Blender a while ago, but couldn't get used to shortcuts/key mappings. Is there a 3dsmax preset for navigation there? I've downloaded it, but there is only Blender 2.7x preset for interface.
                      Available for remote work.

Blender 2.8 is more 3dsmax style... for example, to access to edit mode you can press TAB and then to switch from vertices to faces you can use 1 (vertex), 2(edege) and 3 (face).
Another change to align 2.8 to the other 3d software is the left click to select and the box select.
Have you tried the 2.8 release?

Gonna do it....got to really. I'll see if a weekend of exploration can convince me it's worth investing the time to learn thoroughly - to the level of my Max knowledge, which is decades.
Seems like a mountain right now

                            Just seen now this change
                            https://developer.blender.org/T54963

It seems they've added a sort of "industry standard" keymap

I think it will be added in the next daily build

Probably you know but Blender had released a Release Candidate version of 2.8. This week is expected a new RC before the stable release.
                                https://www.blender.org/download/releases/2-80/

Another important news about the Blender development could be this
                                https://www.blender.org/press/epic-g...pic-megagrant/

It's quite interesting as investment... let see where will be next 3 years. Must be interesting... sure Epic is not doing this for free...but considering the GPL nature of Blender and that FBX is the file format standard for Unreal Engine (at the moment) I hope that improvements will be for everyone... not just Unreal oriented.
In any case it's interesting as signal about the curiosity that industry have about Blender.
