Fluids are the #3 top voted wish on the ideas page. On every single release the release announcements everywhere were plastered with "We need fluids". Now it's there and people hate it. It's bloat and probably won't work.
in Update 2 a motherload of bugs is fixed. And after many releases of "why are there only 50 bugs fixed" now it's a bad thing when many bugs are fixed because that means you screwed up in the first place.

Don't get me wrong, there is plenty that i would like to see changed and fixed with max. But at this point it seems no matter what AD does haters are gonna hate.

/me leans back waiting for the obligatory houdini and blender posts.

Yes, I am getting that, too. I am also getting just as many random crashed in 2018 as I was in 2017. I was hesitant to go to 2018 because I didn't see any reason, however, they are bragging about fixing 800 bugs from 2017. So far, I shouldn't have moved, since I can't use my 4K monitor on 2018 like I did on 2017.

I just want to work without crashing. I don't care about the politics of it all, I just want to work; this isn't a hobbies software. There is a story about Elvis shooting his car because it wouldn't start. If I had the money I would shot my screen several times a day.

I don`t ask for much, just that the software they sell actually works as intended. Throughout all their years it rarely ever has. I might put 2012 and maybe 2014 as exceptions. They still had bugs but nothing I found to be that major which for autodesk was amazing. I also hold that for every software/hardware developer not just autodesk. I also don`t hold to the `it`s complex code so of course there will be bugs`. That attitude just allows for this to perpetuate while waving shiny new tools (that also won`t work properly) to distract from the serious issues under the hood . For the money they make they can afford the staff to be able to fix things quicker or at all.

I also don`t like the term `hater`, it`s a cheap diversion to allow people to ignore an issue or viewpoint. It`s far too easy to dismiss legitimate complaint as `hate`.
`Self-Driving car software is *really* complicated so naturally they`re going to crash a lot, you`ve got to expect that ! At this point it seems haters are gonna hate !` 9)

Well.. we have finished hundreds of shots with thousands of objects and many many million polys.
Our scene easily go 1G+ sometimes 2G+. We use objectXref intensively.
            All with 3dsMax 2017.

            It maybe our setup.
We do not install any unnecessary program.
There are reports the following programs causing problem.
            ASUS AI suite.
            Dell backup utility
            Cloud sync program
            Anti virus
            Nvidia GeForece Experience

I do have the Nvidia GeForece Experience, however, I heard about this being a bug a couple years ago, so I hope that it is no longer an issue. Last year I did remove it to see if it helped and it didn't change the occurrences of crashes.

                There are 2 different issue.
                1) Actual driver problem which is solved in last month or so.
                2) GeForece Experience is causing problem.
So you must have whatever the driver AND remove GeForece Experience.

If you have a problem with such a simple task, your case sounds like not normal.
If those happens to everyone, there would have already been a riot.
The best approach would be isolating a program which would cause the issue.
                  Sometimes just uninstalling doesn't help.

I was happy with 1-2 crashes a day; it started off much worst. 1/4 of the crashes send a report and the AD guys looked up my crashes. The list of crash causes was, basically, all my plugins and Windows. V-Ray, Forest Pro, RailClone, and Windows itself were to blame. I can see downloading hack plugins, but I am legit. It's like telling me that the reason my car dies is that I put gas into it, or I drive on a street. So far, 2018 is pretty good, although, I have crashed twice today.

I'm not a programmer or a coder. But I think we cannot compare the complexity of software like 3ds max with Office or Photoshop =)
Maybe we have installed a stupid script or a freeware, old plug-in from maxplugins.de who make 3ds Max unstable...

Personally, I have only installed a few plugins and never install crap-ware. I have been doing this too long to make those mistakes. Yesterday I removed MAX 2017 and installed 2018. I installed V-Ray, Forest Pro, RailClone, and PSD Manager. I crashed a couple times yesterday and twice today. I can't pick a camera from the screen, I have the double click dialog boxes going on, I have to click/unclick my select region for it to unselect, and I had to replace my 4K monitor with a 2K monitor so I can work. Just like MAX 2017, I'll be content if I only crash a couple times a day.

Can I ask why you remove your old versions of max? I don't know many other industries that would throw away all their old working equipment the same day the new stuff arrives.

I have 2014 (some old projects have modifiers that break and need geometry collapsing before a merge), 2016 (in active use) and will be installing 2018, but not to actually use, just to try and see if it works.

I wanted to illuminate any possible cause of issues. I removed all traces of 3DS MAX and installed 3DS MAX 2018. Pretty extreme, but I was pretty desperate.
