    yeah, you're probably right.

I think this is where the BDPT will come in - to see if caustics look ok (or not) without too many setting tweaks.

    cheers,

    Steve

Sherridge101, thanks for your reply. I'm still trying 10 hours a day to get it right as our catalog is not ready. Ma favour goes to vray as i couldn't achieve similar results in maxwell and a brushed simpe metal took like 30 min to render. I did even took the vtc course to understand maxwell and their materials.

I have not enough rights to access the picture you posted. I would love to see what it is so i can tell you if it's what we are after.

i have here different examples: http://www.meisterschmuck.com/en/pro...ge/phantastics

Those are all real pictures but we can not afford to do this with a photograaf, plus for new designs we have to always make the ring. (we are an upstart) So we need to achieve in 3d and go knock on doors of juwery stores to put our collection in their stores. So the renders are most important.

Can u post it on a extern image sharing so i can see it? Thanks!

I read alot that maxwell is esy, point and shoot but with vray steep learning curve, but i don't know why i tend to understand what i'm doing in vray. I took lynda course and some tuts. I feel i have more control over it.

      Thanks!

        No probs, here you go:

I think you can achieve similar results in both render engines.
There are a few pros and cons, but they're both great tools.

        cheers,

        Steve

This is my progress so far.

I have some problems when exporting from rhino to 3ds. I get that vertical lines on the ring which messup texture. don't know how to fix it. I will post it in rhino forums soon about it.

Need to work on the texture to strech less. But still it needs some work cauz now it looks too much of a metal then jewelry.

          Cheers

eey, that's pretty close tot he first images i post. I like the subtile brush. Do you mind sharing the scene? I do understand if you can't.

That brush is special, like blinky, can't explain what it is. Especially the back ring. Hmm makes me thinking. Really thinking!

The scene is a maya file, and uses hdr lights and textures from catalogues, so unfortunately not.

A bit of post work and a reflection cutout on your latest render and you're practically there.

              I'll PM you a minute.

              cheers.
