  • SU crashes when import a VISMAT

I am having a serious problem that SU continually crashes when I import a VISMAT. I tried different VISMAT`s and different SU files and all have the same result.

I am running the latest version of beta (August load), and the latest version of SU Make. I want to purchase VRAY, but not having the ability to import and applying VISMAT`s is important for my work and would prevent me from purchasing it.

Anyone have any suggestions and what is causing this and how to fix it...

The beta is over, please verify this issue persists with the 2.0 release.

The problem is in version 2.00.23490 (Vfs Beta 2012). I want to make sure I do not get this issue when I purchase the released version.

I haven't heard of this issue before, are there any vrmats (vismats) that cause this to happen in particular?

I tried several different ones, and all gave me a bugsplat.

          Here are the steps:
          - Create a single box on a new model.
          - Applied a SU texture to just one side of the box.
          - Select the VRAY Material editor
          - Right-Click on the SU material in the "Materials List".
          - Select "Import Material"
          - "Hermatite.vismat" (but any of them would do)
          - Click "Open"

This is when I get the bugsplat.

I just used the import material option twice with no issue. Where did you get the file "Hermatite.vismat"? I don't see it on our downloads page. Do any of the materials available on our site cause this crash?

Tried that just now. Downloaded the "vrmats_Masonry.zip" and applied the "Concrete.Vismat" in that bundle. Same result.

I just tried this also, no issues. Perhaps it's a localization related issue? Can you open our debug window and copy and paste it's contents in to a reply to this post?
Plugins->V-Ray->Debugging->Open Debug Window It should look similar to this:

I am not using the 2.0 build, I'm using a development version, but we haven't fixed anything relating to localization or material importing as far as I am aware, since the 2.0 launch.

                    I just tried something..

I uninstalled VRAY 2.0 and re-installed an older version 1.60.23412 (Vfs Beta 2012). That seems to be working fine....no crashes..

I'm going to try and test this on my end today bterstal. Could you send me one of the .vismat materials you're trying to import?
                        Best,

It is the one I downloaded from your website, "vrmats_Masonry.zip" and applied the "Concrete.Vismat" in that bundle.

                          Thanks...

                            Bernard,

I just reverted my system back to the original release build and I cannot reproduce the issue. Have you tried re-installing the V-Ray version you're using and re-downloading the materials to test?

I'm not sure why the .vismat would crash Sketchup at this point. Try also turning off all of your plugins except V-Ray. Maybe anothe plugin is causing an error. Does this happen in every scene?

Next step would be to remote desktop to you and see how this might be happening.
                            Best,

                              Hi Ted,

It is really strange... What I have done on my system is the following to narrow it down:

Latest version of SU Make and latest 2.0 beta version of VRAY --> crash
Downgraded SU Make to previous release, and latest 2.0 VRAY beta --> crash
Downgraded SU Make to previous release and with 1.6 release of VRAY beta -- Works fine

I could try to upgrade SU Make again with the 1.6 VRAY version, but I'm not sure if that would prove anything....(?)

NOTE 1: For the tests, I also re-downloaded the testing VISMATS from your website.
NOTE 2: The only plugin that I have installed during these test was VRAY
NOTE 3: Crash occurred even with a clean SU file that had just one plain box with a single side textured to which I tried applying the VRAY texture.

Hope this helps to narrow it down....
