    well, but when you use the preset option, it shows what parameters are changed, so we can reveal the mystery just applying the preset over a manually copied simulator and seeing the changes

      can you do that and reveal this mystery?

          no need.
          just create a new liquid simulator and type in the parameters from your latest liquid simulator (the one that you loaded the preset into)

            i have applied your preset on the manual version and those are the changes that it reports:

            zmr 0 -> 24
            spflimit0 2 -> 8
            velvort 1 -> 0
            vorticity 0.3 -> 0
            cooling 0.05 -> 0
            lqsharpness 0.5 -> 1
            drying 10000 -> 0.01
            spbirth 10 -> 5
            spfreefall 0 -> 0.5
            mistdrag 1 -> 30
            spsplit 0.5 -> 0
            spstick 0.5 -> 0
            limitby 1 -> 0
            prealloc_mem 1 -> 0
            adapt_s 0.02 -> 0.1

              this is the reason: spflimit0 2 -> 8
              this is the spf parameter, it would describe it as the most important parameter for the simulations
              the rest of the differences are not active, for example spbirth is the splash birth factor, but in this scene the splash is not enabled and the value is ignored.

                is this spflimit exposed to the user? can i change it manually?

                  my mistake, it's not the spf, it's an old param that is not used anymore.
                  so, the mystery remains, i will investigate it after the holidays

                    Thank you.
                    i'm excited. it feels so close to be solved.

                        not yet, but we are starting to work on this today

                          is there maybe a separate SPF for the foam?
                          i'm trying to get a better more accurate behavior of the foam, but when i increase the SPF in the dynamics, the liquid is going crazy and exploding.
                          can i control the the foam simulation quality separately?

                            can you attach the scene with exploding liquid when the spf is increased? the usual effect is the opposite one, the liquid gets smoother with higher spf , this sounds very strange
