This is starting to look like a vicious cycle. 3rd party vendors aren't rushing to port their plugins to Modo because it doesn't have a large userbase (yet). And Modo cannot grow nor compete properly because the same 3rd party vendors stifle its ability to do so by waiting on Modo to grow, first. Every major 3D app has or had to rely on 3rd party vendors. Again, almost nodbody used 3ds Max as a VFX platform until FumeFX came onto the scene. Suddenly, 3ds Max becomes a major player in the VFX arena, being used on many blockbuster films and TV shows....all because of one plugin.
Without tools like PhoenixFD, Modo still appears to the industry as little more than a modeling app, when that simply isn't the case. It only needs a serious VFX suite like PFD to make it a very viable full-pipeline tool. Modo has some nice Auto-Rigging plugins (ACS 2 and Characterbox). VFX simulation tools are the last missing piece of the puzzle, and Chaos Group is leaving us hanging. I'd like to know yay or nay, so I can make an informed decision to stay with Modo or not. I'm glad Chaos Group chose to port Vray to Modo, but if VRay Next comes to Modo soon, I will probably wait to upgrade to it, until or unless PFD is ported to Modo, as well.Last edited by AbnRanger; 09-06-2018, 11:40 PM.

I just bought a license of PFD (3ds Max) and love it, thus far. It would be really popular in the Modo community. It's easy to use, but has lots of control and the GPU preview in the viewport is fantastic. I got tired of waiting and waiting and waiting, with no word.

Not having a plugin like PFD or FFX, in Modo, puts me in a jam having to pay for a 2nd application just to use PFD. For medium to large studios that may not be much of an issue, but for freelance artists and small studios, it is. Again, Chaos Group is looking at Modo's current userbase #'s and that doesn't give an accurate indication of what their customer base will be. Why not? Because, in absence of those tools, Modo isn't open to the VFX market, AT ALL! However, it does have a nice particle system, fracturing, dynamics, etc. that can work along with PFD to provide a very capable VFX solution. If Chaos Group offers an attractive PFD + VRay Next bundle (like they previously did with 3ds Max), there will be plenty of artists and studios that will start using Modo and jump on that deal.Last edited by AbnRanger; 22-08-2018, 07:46 AM.
