        Clouds ...

@ soreal: No comptex used, actually pretty simple setup: Vray-2sided material with one turbulence-noise as opacity and two different sized noise as a negative bump. Both maps slowly animated. The whole thing applied on a Vray plane which glides along. That's it. No lens flare
@Stephan: would love to, but still don't know how to "backsave", the old Max-Issue, sorry ... Could I do it

That is impressive. Really interesting to follow this thread, its turning in to a right old ding dong to see who can achieve the best skys.

I didnot understand how u made this:

been getting some quite nice results on this but one problem - when the sun is visible in the frame the render seems to hang for a long time on the sun...

                ok, here's my effort.
pretty happy with it. (apart from the crappy trees and the sun's maybe a bit small... )

yes sOreal. very very convincing. now if you can animate a sequence of rain clouds coming in and raining, that'll kick butt!

It will go away if you check the clamp output/subpixel mapping options.

                        Best regards,

any chance to try this with max8?

                            here you go! file
viz2007 so *should* be max8 compatible

you'll have to make your own tree maps though :P

Basically, instead of using greys in the opacity map to show distance fading, I did the fading in the diffuse map in photoshop. This ended up working very well with the 2-sided material becuase it uses the brightness of the back-side material's diffuse to determine the amount of transmittance.

s0real, can't wait to see your video! But I have to wait until I get home, youtube is restricted here at work
oh well, I am sure it will be worth the wait by reading others comments
