Would it not be possible for an exceptionally clever programmer, to make an utility for converting a model with a light source into an ies web file.
Kind of "baking" the caustics into a IES file fom a fixture model? That would be really interesting. An IES file doesn't seem too complicated, the translation is what seems tricky. Maybe we'll see a tool for this sometime soon...

Yeah Natty, thats what I meant, The cool patterns on the wall created by the light bouncing around inside the fixture, then projecting out into the room. it's cool that IES does that with out having to use refection/refraction, caustis and raytraced shadows. Thanks again for the post _Jay
thank you for the tut
why did you changed the direct computation params? (from 1,3 to 10,2)
is this an acurate simulation of light?
if so it would be more acurate without the skylight?
here is a max 5 radiosity test on the same scene took 10 sec to compute and render
it may have taken only 10 sec's .....but i think it show's...
the purpose of this was just to let some pep's know how to use photometric light's........ thats it, not rendering time's or setting's.

Skylight is not doing anything since it is outside the room, if he had a window or something...
i alway's find myself increasing the intesity and colour, to get a more richer light.
unless you know how to read the data through note pad and understand, it
i wouldnt be inclined to play with it ....... i would just download all the erco ies files and choose one that you are happy with ...... well thats what i do.
if you look on the i drop section of the erco site it give's you the information, and you can drag and drop straight into max.
or just play with the ies files until you get a libriary of the one's you like ....thats what i do any how.
