lol, no problem! you guys are helping me out tons! I'm doing the same, going through max documentation/tutorials to then try to find the options in blender.

The first example above is a sunlight-only example. As you can see, it doesn't create a sky model with it, and since in blender-vray the environment is black by default, that's what's showing up, hence the need to add IBL. I'm checking out all the brdfs and nodes to see if I'm missing anything that I haven't plugged into the light.

Running all these tests is a great exercise.

    cheers!

OK, here we go again, re-rendering another testbed scene.

Please be gentle with the criticism... it's my first time... lol!

EDIT: guys, how to you add bump to a material? This is what I did, but I'm not getting any bump on the floor:

The connection should go into the bump Tex input (the gray dot) make sure the colors in input and output nodes match up (orange to orange, green to green, gray to gray, etc)

Thank you Andy, I reconnected the node but still no bump on the floor:

Also, in this version I used a world/environment IBL instead of the domelight and it seems to fill the space better. I need to rotate it so I added a math/matrix node node:

However, if I change its rotation value in the z axis the environment doesn't rotate. What's the proper way to do it?

            regards,
            Alvaro

Sorry - your bump is supposed to be where the layered node is, you just attach the green points together (into bump from the vraymtl, then from bump to single.)

Change the rotation info in the Matrix node, not the groundplane settings in the image file.

Back to using the dome light (while I figure out how to rotate the environment):

I'm trying a transform math node, but I tried rotation values on the 3 axis but no sucess... yet. I'll keep on trying

Yup, that's where I'm changing the values, in the screenshot I was temporary trying out stuff, shooting in the dark I fiddled with the ground position values. Rotating the z matrix value to 90/180 /270 doesn't change anything. Neither does changing values in X or Y.

Thanks for the bump node correction, I'll fix it right away

                    Hi Andy,

                    Here's my fixed node:

I'm getting some bump now, but it's generating a weird diagonal in the material and affects only the side below it:

I also tried connecting the bump output to the normal texture (yellow/yellow) and the result was the same.

                          Thank you guys!

Somehow today it's rendering the effect fine, though it's too strong. I got it at 5% in the following image and it's quite strong:

I'm trying out different values, thank you so much for all the help.

                                Thank you Enrique

I'm running different tests with the physical camera to learn how to achieve a proper DOF effect.
