  • Vantage and CG-Source Multi texture

Having issues when trying to use CG-Source Multi-tex. I read somewhere that this should be implemented in Vantage now. Any suggestions or tips??

    Hi tom_spall,

Yes, Multi-Tex is supported. What type of issues are you having? Can you send a screenshot or scene that we can take a look at?

    Best regards,

          Hi Tom,

I am unable to reproduce the issue, it works fine on my end: https://drive.google.com/uc?id=1UBsn...2IJn9X_T5LEswu
Which version of V-Ray are you using? Can you please send the scene using the form here: https://support.chaos.com/hc so we can investigate?

          Best regards,
          Alexander

Oh, that's weird. I'm using vray 2.3 (5.20.23 build 00001) and Vantage 1.7.4. Do I need to update anything? Also, running RTX 3070

No, those should be fine. You needn't update anything. Perhaps the files are not accessible by Vantage or you have applied an global override material inside Max or enable the Material Override in Vantage()https://docs.chaos.com/display/LAV/Materials+tab?

              Best regards,

Ok, I had the same problem, and it's got nothing to do with material override.

What worked with me was to lower the texture resolution. The CG textures I was using were plank of 46k pixels long.
I resized it and it worked. (to 12k pixels)

Side note, it seem that you need to force Vantage to refresh your material.
If you just resize it in Ps, Reload in Max, it will not work in Vantage.
What I had to do was to pick another texture, wait for Vantage to display it, and then re-pick the texture I just resized.

I'm using a 3090Rtx, it's not because of the GPU.

Hope it will help someone and save the time I spent troubleshooting this !

I forgot...Multitexture got nothing to do with the fact that the texture doesn't show up in Vantage.
It's the texture by itself that cause the problem in my case.
But I think that textures that resolution are not used in our workflow except when using CG texture flooring inside Multitexture.

Vantage is built on DirectX where the maximum texture size is 16384x16384.

Hi, I'm having issues with multi texture being put to bump slot.
In Vantage only one map is being displayed as bump, and when I put that same multi texture as displacement, it works well.
Is this some kind of a bug? Is there a solution for this?
                      Thank you

Hi, bump maps with a shading graph (such as this multi-texture or color corrections or any other modifiers) are not supported. We only support bitmaps for bump.

Thank you for your answer. Is there a way to go around this?
This really is a problem in cases where I need to create tiled floors with different faces, each face with it's own diffuse map and corresponding bump map?
Other than creating manually each tile and material for each tile, which I really want to avoid doing, is there anything else that I can do and stay efficient?

You should be able to use a normal map instead, even with a shading graph.
