  • Bug when trying to move copied instances

    Hi guys,

I'm facing a problem here when I try to move some objects in Vantage. When the objects are copied instances, I'm not able to move them, edit or even see them on Vantage outline sometimes.

Also, they're not behaving as the original 3D models, so this is really being on the way on creating animations moving objects around in Vantage. Could you guys help me?

I've recorded my screen showing the problem: Screen recording showing the problem

    Hi Gabriel,

I think this is the "same name" bug that has already brought up in the following threads:
    https://forums.chaos.com/forum/chaos...86#post1157286
    https://forums.chaos.com/forum/chaos...53#post1164053

There is a bug where assets that share names won't be shown correctly in the Scene outliner and cannot be manipulated in the viewport. This mostly happens from SketchUp, Rhino and C4D exported vrscenes. If it is possible use unique names for all objects in your scene and try again to see if it helps. If that is not the case then can you send us the scene for investigation?

    Best regards,

      Hi, Alexander.

After seeing your answer I ran some tests around here and:

      1. Just changing the name didn't solve the problem, but using the "Make unique" option in SketchUp did it. It seems that the problem is having instances of the same object. When SketchUp reads them as individual/unique objects and not just copies, it works on Vantage. I saw that this bug is around since 2020 and it's not solved yet. Any updates on that?

      2. Another related bug. I've created a simple scene with two lamps from Chaos Cosmos (Lamp Floor 013). After making the copy a unique object, I'm able to move the two of them in Vantage, but another problem happens: after I try to move the lamp, the V-Ray Light inside of it moves to under the lamp, going to the base of the component. Are you guys already aware of this second problem?

      All th best,

Still no progress there for development yet. I will try to raise the priority.

No I wasn't aware of that issue. Thank you for reporting it! I have logged in in our system under LAV-2033. We will investigate it and inform you when a potential fix will be available.

        best regards,
        Alexander

          Hi Alexander,

I've confirmed that the problem only happens with copies of components. I had GPT created a simple SketchUp extension code to me that transforms all copies of components in a SketchUp project into unique objects at the same time. I run that extension before exporting the project as VRscene to open in Vantage, and it works perfectly.

          • The problem doesn't happen if I merge the Cosmos proxies inside the asset editor before exporting the scene from SketchUp to Vantage.
          • The problem doesn't happen if I import the Cosmos proxies directly from Vantage into the scene.

I hope that information is helpful.
          All the best,
