  • Could not obtain a license (-2) Internal error: Please contact ChaosGroup support

    Hi there,

I am currently having a problem with one of the slave machines I use for distributed rendering (V-ray 3.6 for 3DS Max 2019). I have 3 other machines as slaves which work fine (although a couple do drop out mid-render now and again).

The message I get on the host machine is:

Server 192.168.2.xx:20204: Could not obtain a license (-2): Internal error: Please contact ChaosGroup support.
    Server 192.168.2.xx:20204 excluded from render
Warning: Render host xxxxx (Server 192.168.2.xx:20204) is not responding

I have made sure the firewall on the slave machine is allowing the following across Domain, Private and Public:

    3DS Max
    Chaos Group License Server
    Port 20204-20211

I saw something on another post in the forum (for Maya but same principle I assume) which mentioned about using the CMD prompt and typing in telnet then IP of slave then 20207

I tried this with the 20204 and the text in the CMD window just disappeared when I pressed enter. With 20207 (not sure if applicable for my problem) the following message came up in the CMD window:

Could not open connection to the host, on port 20207: Connect failed

I would be grateful if you would be able to get back to me today as I need to run some animations over the Christmas Break.

    Many thanks in advance

    Graham

You need to allow TCP port 30304 for the licensing.
Also - the license settings should point to the license server computer and you have to make sure there's a free render node license for the 3rd machine - https://docs.chaosgroup.com/display/...cense+Settings

      Hi Ivan,

Thanks so much for your response - looks like the primary license server was pointing at the wrong machine as I have changed this and the issue looks like it has solved itself.

In regards to the other issue I am having as mentioned above about a couple of the slave machines dropping out and in - do you know what might be causing this? For example if I have a render which takes an hour, one of the slave machines might drop out then come back in around 10 times during this hour! So essentially it contributes for 5 minutes, drops out, then restarts and contributes for 5 minutes etc etc.

      Thanks again
