  • Particle Shader for dust

I've looked in the forums for this, but don't seem to find anything. I've also tried to figure it out but don't think it can be done, so figured I'd ask here.

Is it possible to use the particle shader on a 3DS Max particle system to render a "dust" look? We have an extremely LARGE area we need to cover in dust, and using Phoenix to simulate it will take more time than we have. I though maybe using a 3DS Max particle system, and Phoenix's shader would let me get that realistic look, but help cut down on simulation time. Is this possible? Or is there another way to get the realistic look?

    Thanks in advance.

    Hey,

Indeed, the Particle Shader can work with any Max particle system and not just Phoenix particles, so you can generate the particles any other way that's feasible. You may also use the Count Multiplier to fill the spaces between particles with more particles at render time.

    Cheers!

But I don't see a shader that would support a "dust" like look. Is there one that would work?

Hmm, wouldn't the Points or Fog mode rendering of the Particle Shader work out for this kind of look?

The points would require way to many particles, and oh man... the "fog" blended into the other text/background on the screen and completely missed it! I'll give that a shot.
